Damage and stuff

Big little or teeny weeny
O.K. i dunno if this has been duscussed before (please forgive me if it has ). What is the damage in fights going to be like in the game? Will it be like normal DM games where you are a gnarly hardbitten guy (i.e. you can withstand rocket blasts) or is it more akin to games like DoD and CS in terms of being a real life person?

both have their merits, and im assuming that the two sides will have differing health.
cheers

Lets just say the ALIENS ARE MUCH MORE POWERFUL compared to the humans

I think they said they're going for about CS damage levels, and I also think I remember seeing that there are no one-hit-kill weapons.

The damage is somewhere between the two, probably close to CS levels. It's nowhere as extreme as DOD. A level 1 alien can usually take some hits from a basic marine and retreat without dying, but that's more rare vs. 2+ marines. A marine can take only one bite from a level 1 and live, two will do him in.

That answers one of my original questions about this mod Glad to hear the damage levels are both resonable and not as extreme as in some mods. A level between CS and DoD seems just right, actually. A level 1 dying from Light MG round would be horrible!

Sounds balanced considering the marine has time to fire several shots whereas the bob must spend time closing, and being a defenseless (if fast and stealthy) target. The bob gets one chance in his charge or he is smacked apart by a retrating and firing marine who maximizes the gap for the longest amount of time.

Sounds good to me. But, the question now is, how much does it take to kill a level 5

I sure hope that was an attempt at sarcasm.

I'd preffer the damage to be a bit less realistic than CS. For examle it would take about 2-3 good bob chomps to take down a marine and about 7-10 rounds from a LMG to take out a bob. I also believe that the melee attacks should somehow have different hitboxes than the ranged attacks. A pair of jaws would find it easier to tear out a marines soft bits than trying to bite off the marines head. Whereas a fast-paced dart would cause damage when smacking into organs, but would kill much faster if the dart enters the brain.

    *Sigh*

    We can dream can't we?

You are pretty close scythe. A bob can kill a amrine in two or three bites. A marine commonly unloads one or two clips while reloading in order to take out a bob (though I have killed a full health bob with one clip due to luck, accuracy, and Je ne sais Quoi). Marine to Bob gunplay seems balanced just right.

and the others? Are marines screwed when the lvl 5's roll around? and what happens to balance when the aliens upgrade? can the marines compensate just as quickly? or due they need to be researching better weapons when the aliens just happen to be upgrading? Sorry for the load of questions.

Actually, the lvl5 wasn't included in this playtest. Which is a lucky thing for our dear friend Humbaba, the shotgun wielding maniac.

and how many rounds are in a lmg clip? just want to judge ol' bob's stamina

    40 fast firing shots
  • Spyder_MonkeySpyder_Monkey Vampire-Ninja-Monkey Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 8Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Fast-firing is not really that accurate. The LMG goes through bullets like most of us go through oxygen. It just eats up ammo, but the reload time is extremely quick, which makes for a balanced gun.

All of which might change, if needed. Which is the reason for the playtest.

No I wasnt being sarcastic about the damage levels, I personaly think that CSs damage levels are horribly high, this might have to do with people freezing when shot but still, I was hoping for more of a nail and tooth mod then a shoot and die in 2 bullets mod...
