Hammer Versions Of Released Maps

<div class="IPBDescription">can I get a peek at how it's done?</div> Hi
quick question
is there any Hammer Editor versions of the maps we currently play that can be opened up in hammer?

I just started mapping and need a frame of reference for how maps should look. I can make a room with player start, light, solid 4 walls. pretty much sub-basic. I personally learn better with example - i have no intentions of taking a map and running to the hills or copyright infring. etc.; just need something to look at in the hammer gui so i can get a concept of how it works.

thanx

Really, if you just wanna know how something's done...just ask. Most of the people who made the official maps check these boards from time to time, and they're all friendly. And if they aren't available, there are plenty of knowledgeable community mappers here, such as myself. On the other hand, decompiling a map is not always considered to be in good taste, even if you don't have any intention of directly taking anything and using it in one of your maps. Besides, forming a good relationship with other mappers is a good thing -- they'll be more likely to give you opinions and advice, and there's even the possibility that they'll let you into a beta test of one of their maps.

I think what he means is he wants to open up the official maps in order to learn from them. Being able to understand how a mapper did something is a great learning tool and I wouldn't mind decompiling a map either. I can understand how some people alter maps though, that is entirely not im my favor. I just want to learn how to map better, I am a visual lerner therefore this kinda thing would help me.

<span style='color:red'>There is no place for comments like that on these forums.</span>

I'm just kidding, but I SERIOUSLY don't agree with decompiling. If you want to see how an official map was made, private message a mapper, and if they're nice enough (and trusting enough) to say yes, they'll e-mail you the RMF. If they say no, you have no right to reverse-engineer their hard work for ANY purpose. Its just not nice.

If you don't know how to map, this isn't the forum to learn where. There are a zillion sites on how to map for HL, like www.valve-erc.com . Questions like "yes i need help plz i just started to map today and i need help onm how to makel a room if anyone could help me if would be great thanks" really tick the experienced mappers off. FIRST you learn to map for HL in general. THEN you learn how to map for a mod like NS. Put your socks on before your shoes, children.

This is all outlined in the PINNED FAQ's, btw, and this is the second time today I've pointed out the obvious to the n00bies. The mappers in this forum don't mind helping out the n00bs, but the same questions with readily available answers clogging up the forum get AWFULLY annoying.

But whatever. Now run along and go learn how to map. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
