Fun Iwth Mines

The most underrated weapon
I had great fun last night, playing as marine. It started out as a tiny game, with two marines vs. three aliens. I knew I'd have a hard time defending the base and capping resources on my own so I asked the comm for some packs of mines, and spread them liberally around the base near buildings, on the floor by the entrances and so on. Placed a few on the walls so the skulks would see the laser and use the floor to avoid it, which took them straight the ground-mines. We didn't build turrets, just strategic mine placement.

So I left base and when off to my waypoints, and all through the game got mine-kills. Even if the skulks got past the entrances they'd be blown up as soon as they tried to chomp the CC or infantry portals. ****ing hilarious. As the mines were used up the comm would restock me when I came back to base. The aliens got annoyed at first (especially when the same guy died three times in a row from mines) but eventually even they found it funny after a while. It held them off long enough until the teams had increased to a normal size, but it was great while it lasted.

I can only nod; mines are great.

If you know the commander, try to get him to drop you a batch whenever you're off to build a res node, or a phase gate.
You get 8rp back real fast.

Yup, mines are surly upcoming in publics. The only effective way to place em is on the ground, which is very nice to stop a rush on your base (even in wars).

I love mines, i always ask for them, last game though i didn't get any cause someone of them said mines were useless and that fades can blow them up, which then can, but you gotta hide them, don't put them on the wall

Landmines are the best IMHO. The laser for wall mines is just so big, bright and bad that it attracts acid rockets like a magnet.

Filling a hallway with mines is a great early defence but you just can't keep placing them at the same height. You need to have them in different positions to scare off the skulks because they can climb walls they won't go into a hallway with a crazy mine maze.

Mines are unpopular in pubs because they have to be intelligently placed, and the last thing a commander wants to see is some guy slapping mines all over the CC and throwing those resources away, or putting all of them on walls at head-height. I'd be only too glad to take or give mines, as long as the person laying them out had a clue.

I blew up one of my clanmates twice in a row last night with mines....granted he's newb to NS but man that was funny :-D

Put them across the double-ladder elevator shaft on ns_bast and they do a damn effective job.

some great fun u can have with mines if u have 2 hives secured. go outside their hive and ask comm for a armoury, when its up ask him to drop 20 packs of mines and go crazy mining the armoury and all exits to the hive, then u just call in some backup to fix the rest.
