I think that there is no need for the onos in NS, sure it's fun to play as an Onos but 90% of the games I have played as aliens have been won without the need for them. The other 10% the Onos just speeded things up a little.
Onos could be removed right now without advertly affecting the aliens. If they have 3 hives n e way your dead, a cloaked cara adren Fade army will wash over the humans.

i find onos' a little useless because most of the time the marines spend very little resources on building main base defences, they put all of their cash into the hive defence. so what happens is the aliens get fades and umbra and go destroy the last hive (sometimes takes a while, sometimes not). then the aliens switch their sights to the poorly defended marine base and easily over-run it before the gorge has enough time to build the hive or have it completed.
but that isnt always the case; sometimes the aliens first go after the poorly defended marine base with fades and umbra. this is mostly a big mistake because the commander can rebuild the inf portals and CC into the hive where most of the defences are, and therefore the commander has to only focus on defending one spot and does not have to worry about onos' and bile bomb, etc. this happened one game and it must have taken the fades and lerks about an hour to fully destroy the marines in the hive base.
my only suggestion for the above situations is to make the CC only buildable within a small radius of the origin CC, this will prevent long and lame games of trying to destroy the marine main base at the hive location.
onos is for when the marines have caked up so much res but are just sitting in there base with 2-3 HA/grenaders and you need to mow them down. As soon as you do, even if you die it makes way for the fades to wreck house.
Yeah the Onos is more of a tank than anything really. He's like the (sorry to compare to Starcraft again...but it's very comparable!) Zerg Ultralisk...tough to kill and works excellently when used with attacking units. Also the Onos' paralyze and primal scream abilities are f'in awesome!
Are sieges and HA Useless?, wait, how about we dont have anyupgades for the player, just play w/normal guns, normal skulks and lerks! great idea and when the aliens get 3 hives they automatically win, wait thats a great idea in a way......maybe a different game type?.......... Eric
Hey hey - CounterStrike was fun until the took out the goddam bunny hopping. I used to bhop under the de_dust bridge with the MAC-10 and kill the whole CT team in no time....aaah the good ol' days.
Also they removed teh AWP crosshairs = looz :-( Not that I need them since I play DoD and have learned to unaim shotgun people...gg. when did i say i was bashing the onos, or your not talking to me.............btw i dont like counter-strike i played it back a long time ago. i still play it everyonce in awhile - just never could beat TFC. i dont wish for anything to really change in NS, its a great game. i only thought it would be interesting to see somthing server side to stop upgrades but a game on hives maybe some stripped weapons and such, or turret build limits.
The onos exists to punish foolish marines who let the aliens have three hives. The onos is an incredible base eater. Between them and fades with bile bomb, no base will survive.

That's just plain not true. Onos, however technically powerfull will still fall to a well placed CC in the doorway, if you're lucky it could even get stuck inside it. (hehe)

Onos may be useless to you but have you ever though some one else might find it more useful then you can? Every one has different playing style at least give them that option!
I've had a couple games where aliens struggled to get the third hive but to get it taken away shortly after finishing it. in that time thought only 1 alien was able to go onos so after that, that onos was assigned 2 gorges and he basically became unstoppable, 2 gorges webbing/heal spamming running behind an onos brought us to victory, and god bless.
same thing happens a lot taking the 2nd hive with fades
