Onos Aint So Tough...

seriously... OMG ONOS! RUN!!! AAAHHH!
but im serious... think of it: a completely un-upgraded marine could take down a single onos (considering he hits every shot, which happens rarely, although onos are pretty big, + at a range onos kinda have a disadvantage since the only ranged 'attack' is paralyze... and they can still shoot though..) i mean, 50 shots per lmg clip, doing 10 damage/hit at a rate of 11 shots/sec, he could take the onos to 200 health, or some combination of health/armor going up to 200 total (unless armor works the same way as in HL, 2 health = 1 armor) he switches to pistol, unloads his clip in 1.5 secs (somewhere around there) and wham, dead onos... 20 damage/hit per pistol shot, 10 shots/clip... + perfect accuracy, so, 1 full lmg clip + 1 full pistol clip = dead onos, now just think how quickly marines could go through an onos like this in groups... 2 marines dont even need their pistols... but, of course this is all considering the marine lives long enough to fire all that, and the onos has carapace as his defense upgrade (since carapace puts armor to 200 for onos) if he doesnt have carapace, then thats only 5 pistol hits... (seeing as its 500/150 without carapace, -5 pistol shots from that figure)
another way of putting it:
700 -500/200 = 0, dead, etc.
so thats 50 lmg shots at 10 damage each, + 10 pistol shots at 20 damage each, add those together and you get 700, subtract that from 200, you get 500 more to subtract, subtract that from the 500 and there you go, 0... unless as said above, armor counts as 2 points of damage instead of 1... but just think how many onos you could have dead with a 5 marine team against a 5 alien team that cant build outside the marine base due to sieges, + the turret fire that would be in there would be crazy... actually, a similar thing has happened to me, 5 turrets, + all upgrades + constant onos + jetpacks/hmgs/gls/harmor = never gonna lose... after nearly an hour of the onos destroying our stuff and us rebuilding/repairing it, we finally had a chance: 2 marines left the base with an hmg/shotgun and jetpacks, went up to 1 hive (waste handling, ns_tanith) the 1 with shotgun (me) flew up on the rafters in the ceiling, a few seconds later we saw some death messages and the rest of the marines were here with us to help take out the hive, it was very poorly defended so it was taken easily, the instant the hive was gone all but 2 aliens left... this being before the more-than-5-people-on-one-team = loss patch, the game continued, only for the aliens to lose... (was originally like 7on7 but went to 7on2 after we took the hive...)

ok, i went off-topic in 1 post but you know what i meant by this whole thing... maybe you'll have fun in a losing game to see how many onos you can kill without dying and/or how quickly you kill them (or killing them period)

HUGE post there...

I almost killed Ken while he was fully healed/armored onos and me as an unupgraded marine with a lmg and pistol, without commander support ...

It was quite fun actually .. would have done it too if that damn Fade didn't kill me right before I blasted my last clip into him.

Anyway, ya, its rare, but it happens .. ^_^

Of course... you'd also be assuming that the Onos is running down a long, well-lit hallway towards the marine. I still prefer to stand with cloaking in the middle of a cramped room.

    Marine: "Why am I stuck"
    Me: "Chuckle!"
    Marine: "AHHH!!!!!!"

Ah yes, everybodys favorite Ownus tactic: the Halway Blocking/Room clogging. The marines cant figure out whats in thier way until its to late

I think the only way that one marine is going to kill an Onos at full health is that either the Onos gets stuck or is a total moron. If a marine is sitting on some ledge inaccessable to the marine, he can just run away. Primal Scream and Charge make you truck really fast, so you have the trump card on mobility as an Onos.

Onos kinda sucks though, they should improve them in some way... I hate em. I don't remember last time I changed to an onos, one thing is certain... Im alot more likely to die as an onos than as a fade.

Only thing they are good for is primal scream...

in theory it would kill him, but remember the onos will probly have 3rd level carapace which absorbs 60% of all damage + gives extra armour, and i dont know if there is a coridor long enough for a marine to unload all their bullets in to the onos + a whole pistol clip before the onos get there and rips the marine apart (lets not forget onos has primal scream + charge = hot rod onos)

have you ever tried to rapid fire a pistol in a wall? it only shoots 8 actualy bullets. weird eh?
  • foolfool Join Date: 2003-01-18 Member: 12447Members
what if the onos had regen? when your an onos you get a lot of health back per second. i donno what it is, but it may be anywhere between 15 or 20. thinking of that, since it takes 5 seconds to unload a clip of a mg the onos may loose about 150 life and all the armor, and be left with 350 life. if the marine switches to a pistol, by the time he is done with the clip the onos will mprobably have around 200 life. seeing this as if the onos just stood there, doing nothing with no cloak.

and btw, one time i was a marine with a hmg and saw an onos run at me so i completely unloaded right outside the marine base and he died and i didnt get hurt at all.

Sometimes, I just let the marines shoot me with their LMGs and pretend to ignore their fire completely, before i walk up to them, like "yo", and impale them with my nose. Feels great.

its 30 health or armor per second
and more with new patch, which states regen gets upped
