<div class="IPBDescription">Frontiersmen Mine Rush!!</div> Yeah you read correctly - I wanna test out a strategy involving the Marines rushing with a bunch of mines.
If you used mines correctly in a non-defensive manner you could place them on floors or walls nearby to spawn points in hives, and even have their splash damage aid in taking out enemy structures. Obviously the hard part would be getting to the hive and planting them but once you're in there, you're in.

No, mines don't hurt alien structures. They sure hurt marine structures though. That's why it's a bad idea to mine the area around a phase gate.

Hrm. I remember mines hurting alien structures, and I don't remember mines hurting marines in anything other than the horrible v1.0 CC attacking lamers.
This calls for investigation! I will look into it as soon as I get the chance.

I suppose I was wrong about them hurting marine buildings, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a phase gate nearly go down due to mines. It was on a beta server though, so maybe they hurt structures in 1.04?

mines might be nice to **** aliens off in the first few mins by planting 50 in their hive room, but if they dont actually damage structures (dont think they do, i put literally 25 mines down below/above a hive on a LAN game once and i dont think it did anything) then their useless besides just to delay aliens (and marines for wasting RPs on them) about 10 mins...
The other day i handed out mines to everyone at base because we had all upgrades and 2 hives and i just waiting for them to finish the job. What 1 guy did with 2 set of mines was rig my comm chair all over from the wall to the chair. I wonder if the comm chair would blow up with enough mines there? 1 lucky skulk could of ended the handouts .
I didnt have another com chair either because base was fairly secure.

2 mines will kill an uncarapaced gorge when he places down an RT
about 6 mines ( i forgot the exact amount ) will kill the rt when he places the RT.
that is, if you put the mines on top of the resource nodes, and the gorge will only die if he doesn't jump away when he places the node.
So just go around putting 2 mines on each resource and unless skulks fire off the mines, the gorges have a hard time getting up their rts <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
How much damage does a mine do again? I forgot.
