Holy. . Crap. Read <a href='http://www.againsttcpa.com/tcpa-faq-en.html' target='_blank'>http://www.againsttcpa.com/tcpa-faq-en.html</a>, all of it. I know its long, but it's better than the default FAQ on the site. If this is something real, and not like MAVAV <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> , this could be really nasty.
Me and a few pals came to the conclusion that this will just open up a new market for computermanufacturers that provide Tcpa-free hardware. Softwarepiracy is everywhere you look. Try to think of someone you know that dont do it in some way or another. People are gonna want to by computers that are not Tcpa and someone will provide it.
Thats what we sat around talking about one friday night, and if you think sitting round talking about computers while drinking is sad... well it is <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

LOL
ok, that website is sorta stupid (spelling/grammer as bad as mine) If you want some decent info look here: <a href='http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html' target='_blank'>http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html</a>
basic deal is that it will be some nasty encryption stuff built into stuff an example of this is any one who was silly enugh to use one of the newer versions of WMA to rip musick (you can only listen to it on the ocmp that ripped it, lol)
All this menes is that it will be much harder to break the law(piracy and such), and make it so that companies could make it very hard for you to install/run competitors software (IE word docs could be heavily encrypted)

TCPA / Palladium are the probably most urgent threats to personal liberty a non-government has ever created. The problem about the 'then let's just don't use it' philosophy is (and I'm not making this up) that at least in the US there is currently a law in progress that would ban any non-TCPA system. Seeing how far the rest of the western world copies the American tech legislation, similiar stuff will come up for everyone of us.
Actually i just tought of something really dumb just now what if once they code this into say windows or other software? Will you be able to play certain games or will this seriously restrict you gaming possibilities like no more hl,Ns,DoD,Cs,Dc,Si,Fa,Bf1942 and friends... Only eval microsoft games or partner games that buy an eval license from microsft.... ITS TEH END OF TEH WORLD!!!!11
If that law passes, "clean" computer hardware will become an underground thing. There's no way I'm EVER ditching my computer, no matter how slow it'll be considered in the future if TCPA is our fate! If I get arrested for choosing to be different, so be it. This crap shouldn't hold up in courts, it's a blatant violation of the law and basic human rights. Imagine this: You store pornography on your computer. It's nothing different, just regular pornography. One day, a Microsoft employee is browsing files and comes across the pornography on your computer, opening it up. He'll be able to delete it if it offends him in any way. Invasion of privacy, right there.

Also, I used the wrong term. The law isn't 'in progress' as in 'going through the commitees', but 'in preperation', as in 'being planned'.
erm ok
sorry bout that i wanted this 550th post...
