Cloaking And Scanner Sweeps...

Ok, everywhere I keep seeing people posting under the assumption that a scanner sweep will effectively counter a cloaked alien. However, I've never actually noticed this in game. Am I to understand that if I'm waiting, cloaked, in a room, and the commander pings that room, I suddenly decloak?

I realize that he will now be able to see me for the duration of the sweep, but am I actually visible to any marines in the room? In other words, does the sweep just reveal me to the commander, or does it shut off my cloak for a few seconds?

I know that this seems to be commonly accepted as what happens (It disables your cloak), but I've never actually noticed this happening, although this may be because I (unfortunately) rarely get to use cloaking until the third hive is up.

If only the commander sees you, then it is up to him to warn the marines, which will help them to know you're in the room, but they still won't know where, unless he superbly describes your location...

When the ping is active, the marines can see you. That is why cloaking sucks.

Actually, I think cloaking doesn't suck so much as it is just not really of value compared to how neccessary adreneline is. You can overpower the marines with defencive chambers and adrenline. You tend to lose ground with just defencive chambers and cloaking.

Cloak and regeneration is a nice combo though. Just got done playing a game where we eventually won with that.

The game (on a 1.04i server) went like this:

Started out in Cargo hive. Got defencive chamber. We beat the marines to viaduct (their com decided to put turrets in their main base). While viaduct was building, marines moved in and secured power silo. Newbie gorge built sensory. We started attacking power silo but we were unable to overpower the marine's defences there without adreneline. A force of marines with jetpack snuck up into the red room and built big nasty fort in there. We were unable to dislodge marines from red room. Viaduct hive destroyed. Marines focused their efforts on attacking the heavily fortified cargo hive. Aliens were somehow able to remoe the defences from red room (I suspect from the marine comments that some cheater jumped into the com chair and recycled the phase gate in there). Marines had defences in viaduct, but we managed to overpower them since it was not in a very confined space and we were able to remove the turret factory but just running circles around it faster than the turrets could track us. Viaduct was rebuilt. Marines beaten back to their fortifications. This time we managed to overpower the power silo by using front line gorge healing and web support to supplement our fades, and started building that hive. Marine overcame defences in cargo and took that out, but didn't stick around to fortify it heavily for some reason (probably defending base or trying to re-take power before it built). Once power silo hive was up, we built movement. At this point we had all three chambers (since we kept defencive from cargo which was down). Marines managed to hold their base for some time with moderate HMG and HA support. When cargo came back up we were able to quickly finish them off.

Cloaking and regeneration are great force come backs like that I played a couple games very similar to yours Geldonyetich. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
