<div class="IPBDescription">The deadly umbra</div> What exactly was the point in this reduction, it's gone from 6/7 bullets hit = 85% to 5/6 83%

This reduction is hardly going to be noticed, or even make a difference half the time.
In my opinion it should block say 75% of bullets at the very max. Make the lerk become support, not a complete offensive alien.

I don't think flayra has got to the stage of 'fine tweaking' the balance stats yet. So what exactly was the point in this?

Note: This is my personal opinion, so all those flaming fools commonly found on this board need not reply.

    1.04 umbra blocks exactly the 75% you are suggesting. Unless they went back to the old system in one of the latest betas.

    They should make upgrade for marines: Spiked Iron Boots. Especially well suited for trampling on grounded lerks. Yes, I have too said to myself "If I cant shoot him I must knife him" only to find myself being eaten alive very fast by this... bat thing!

    When GLs aren't available, this is the best method of killing the lerk. I'd much rather die trying to stab the little bugger than get acid-spammed to death while pumping a largely ineffective leadstorm into him.

    I am pretty sure it is at 75% in the latest 1.04 patches. Though, I would not mind having someone with some actually proof.

    I get this from a pistol fired at me at point blank, while I was a fade in umbra. It actually hit me alot (4/10) of times. Needless to say I was quite surprised. But I like the new change. Umbra was a bit much before.

    So are we expecting some way to combat Umbra other than GLs then? I guess Hand Grenades would work - I'd like to see them at least take up slot 2. Doesnt seem like anything official has been said about Hand Grenades, tho. Hmm...     You will see a lot more offensive oriented, 2 hive Lerks now that Fades cost 54 res instead of 44. The Lerk now has a place as lower cost, stand-alone attack unit and not solely a support unit for the 2-3 Fades that immediately gestate after hive 2 comes up. I REALLY like this. I like seeing more than just one alien form in there mixing it up the whole game from 2 hives on. Single best change in 1.04 is the res cost increase for Fades IMHO. Greatly improves the flow of the game.

    if people played enough they would realize that its not a one little thing fix
    theres TONS of varaibles that change these things

    and not only that the game IS balanced :/

    Well when something can give a 700HP fade (with cara3) technically 4* more health with only the expensive GL as a deterant (which never works as a tactic on publics), yes, theres a reasonbly big balance flaw.

    Great, so let's further nerf one of the great teamwork parts of NS....

    Take umbra down to less than 3/4, and I would take a fade/fade combo over fade/lerk.3/4 is exactly right, from my exp on 1.04 servers. Before, it was too overpowered.

    And Defcon, the marines are morons if they just go for the fade. There's a reason the lerk has relatively little health <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    Hehehe how about you make a advance alien offence chamber. Since the offence chambers aren't taht great in protecting the area marines can easily dodge its attacks.     Nemesis, I have to say that comic link is one of the funniest parodies of balance discussions I've seen.

    As for what the umbra blocking actually is, as I understand, 1.03 is 6 out of 7 (85%) and in 1.04 it will be 5 out of 6 (83%). Where does the 75% amount come from? If it is 83% instead of 85%, I agree that this isn't even news...but if it were to go down from 85% to 75% that just might be noticable. Whether it is good or not depends on your interpretation of the lerk's role in the game...which is a completely different discussion.

    I just loved playing a 1.04 server a little while ago. There were three aliens. Two fade, one lerk. They were trying to take the messhall, pretty good midgame going on. We had HMGs and HA floating around, maybe an upgrade or a couple, MT etc. They round the corner, lerk stands there and farts out his little yellow cloud. I concentrate fire on him while my teammates ignore him. He dies in short order (hey, he was just <i>standing</i> there!)...and, guess what. The fades didn't bother us for several minutes.

    In later versions (was it 1.04e?) and onward it is 3 out or 4, not 5 out of 6.

    Basically, this entire topic belongs in last week, you uneducated clueless scumbag.

    Actually, my Lerk umbra experience in 1.04h has been that it has lost a noticable amount of potency. I feel like it's alot more luck based. Sometimes I block all the bullets, sometimes I block barely any. Better to rely on speed and range to compensate for the Lerk's pathetic durability.
