Seriously however, some people in the NS community have an unfair opinion of CS players and I would imagine from Widowmaker's avatars hes one of them. I played CS before NS, and still do.
If your thinking of trying NS out, have a scan through the new player's forum as they're some new players guides there that'll help you get a feel for the game.
Best way I can describe it is if the teamwork or lack thereof in CS has ever got you down, or your otherwise looking for a more teamplay oriented mod, welcome to NS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
If your a hardcore CS player looking for a challenge, you might or might not like NS. It's different and requires a different set of skills. Try it, you might like it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Edit: Apologies for sterotyping you Widow!!
i was just playing with him. Hes a good friend of mine. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I told him to make a post on the forums hoping it would help push him along <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
and now hes hooked!!!
As far as the aliens go, well they are aliens so their guns, classes, and abilities in combat are unique, and to me is what makes NS such a break and so fun from other games. As the aliens occupy their second hive, they too get the options to "tech up" but for the aiens is gesting into greater alien lifeforms. They also gain another weapon. The aliens have a lifeform which flys and shoots and shoots a cloud which protects himself known as the lerk, THe fade is extremely powerful is kind of like the Heavy amor guy from the marine team. The fade shoots a rocket type of acid, and has powerful claws which slash and have massive strength, they can blink which is like teleportation. THe skulk is the primary alien lifeform you begin with, he can climb up walls and bite also has the ability to "tag" the marines by shooting them a parasite which allows for your team to see them through walls, for the time he is alive.

noooo, not the TROUT! not the TROUT!!!
anyhoo. one minor suggestion, take out your CS clan tag, or DoD, or whatever clan tag, it misleads ppl into thinking you know what you are doing. and makes ppl less forgiving if you mess up.
fyi.
This game "sounds" better than counter-strike I really liked counter-strike until it got out of beta then I started to hate it. I love RTS games and I love FPSers. So I should love this. Unless the two loves void each other in which case I will hate it.
Not really. The reason people have a bad view of CS is that, in sheer number of idiots and jerks and other rejects, it has amongst the largest numbers and percentages of them of any online game. It's not suprising considering it's popularity though. CS also, in my experience at least, has the most cheaters. Actually, Half-Life itself has a bigger number of scumbags then just about any other online game. Of course, that has to do with it's huge popularity more then anything.
LOL, cs does suck live with it :/ If i wanted to sit on my behind in a game for 3 minutes followed by lining up my gun to a place no where near the cursor and shooting for 2 seconds id go get some hostages. Note this is not a flame about cs i dont really care and the statistical success of the game make it *amazing* May i remind you that statistically the sims is one of the best games ever.
sorry i just had to say that, sometimes we all need to be a jerk
sorry i just had to say that, sometimes we all need to be a jerk
And teamwork is what makes online gaming so much fun.
And the most crucial point is: You get spawned every 10 sec, and dont have to wait 5 min till that f*cking camper moves his f*cking a$$.
CS suxx.
NS rules.
Look at NS. Here is a game that is playable, addictive, team based fun, we're getting new versions at regular intervals with new features that we can't wait to try. I think most people would agree that when CS was at its peak when it was in the same stage of development.
Every game has its natural lifespan, no-one plays elite anymore except on java emulator sites, that doesn't stop it being one of the greatest early multiplatform titles ever released. (note to young people - <a href='http://www.emuunlim.com/hob/elite.html' target='_blank'>elite</a> was the 1st MASSIVE game ever made) yet if you actually play it now, it's awful... would you really spend weeks building up your character, trading, pirating and all that stuff? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
CS is coming to the end of it's days, the mod community is fickle beast, who is to say that more updates over the last year would have saved it? we have new games coming out all the time and the anticipated CS killer (i.e. a similar game that was more popular than CS) never really happened. Instead of a sudden community failure we have a had gentle decline in the number of interested participants.
Lets be fair, admit that CS has/had something special, now we all want something new... enter the likes of NS
Oh yeah, one last point... if/when in a years time <i>this</i> mod becomes riddled with cheats/idiots or is blatently commercialised to the detriment of the gaming community etc. etc. would you be just as willing to be as negative about it? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

i agree with this part of you post.
the rest, well, i disagree.
CS is a sweet sweet game. good times.
apples and oranges, apples and oranges.
EDIT: A-word edited to be less offensive. Who filters that word anyway... gah.
Let me add to the fray by saying that I play both cs and ns on lans, usually small 8-16 person events. There are no cheaters, no lamers, and all newbies are supported and taught to play. We have fun and enjoy both.
We find that anyone can jump into a game of cs. They can learn to shoot, cover their team members and/or rambo. ns has a learning curve which requires more support, and more time, but is more rewarding (or frustrating, hehe).
We've recently discovered sven co-op (if ns = starcraft * cs, sven co-op = space quest * cs) and though we keep getting stuck on some of the puzzles we're enjoying running through the maps as a team versus hordes of AIs.
Well firstly welcome to NS. Enjoy your stay. Don't go gorge for the first month or so <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Secondly, I hope you realise that CS isn't the ONLY online game where you run around shooting people...
