<div class="IPBDescription">... the most valuable of traits.</div> In most games as Gorg I try to get the team upgraded to Level 3 - Scent of Fear ....

.... nope it is no good, who am I trying to kid. Scent of Fear is just plain rubbish! They should give it away on a packet of cereal rather than upgrade to it!

how does the current upgrade system work for scent of fear? does the radius of effect increase for every sensory chamber? or does it sense less and less hurt marines?

Each additional chamber increases the number of flames aimed at the gorge, and the number of marines incapacited with laughter by a factor of 2. At lv3, marines are incapable of stepping off their IPs without erupting into a fit of giggles, and all aliens barring the gorge are magically transported to the ready room.

    ... supposed to be :

Level 1 Able to pinpoint injured marines within 17m

Level 2 Able to pinpoint injured marines within 34m

Level 3 Able to pinpoint injured marines within 51m

    but I like Teoh's findings better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

(and my point being - Scent of Fear is not a suitable upgrade and needs some rethinking!)

Should anyone not yet have noticed, the upgrades are being redesigned for 1.1.

Too true, but lets discuss what we have rather than vapour ware? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'll frequently use Scent of Fear over Cloaking when I'm a Skulk or Lerk. If someone gets a nip at a marine before getting killed, I'll know it and be able to pinpoint an easy kill if they strut down <i>my</i> corridor.

Cloaking will give me a better chance against healthy marines, but Scent of Fear will allow me to track any marine if there's as little as one drop of their blood missing. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

The problem with it in that case, is most decent skulkers parasite first, then bite unless they're in a confrontation they're sure they'll win. In which case, SoF is irrelevant.

SoF is a perfect sensory upgrade, as it goes so well together with lerk gas when you want to hunt down those annoying marines in the vents.

As that only happens when you have three hives, and sensory is only built when you have three hives, it's a nice upgrade.

It's usefulness in two hive situations is of course very low, but it shares that with the rest of the sensory upgrades.

I like scent of fear. It tells you where to aim your spores <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

scent of fear is great. It lets you know when your hit actually got counted against a marine, and could be very useful to have in a 2-skulk trolling squad (parasite him, lure him to your buddy). *shrug* the strats are pretty endless. If they are effective or not, we'll never know--in a normal pub, at least.

As for me, for endgame I NEVER get cloaking, I go fade, celerity, carapace, SoF. It helps mop up surviving marines, and clears a nice path for Mr. Onos.

Heh, haven't had much experience with SOF, being as most of the lame pubs still don't employ sensory chamber until the game's over, at which point then it just becomes a matter of mopping up. Oh well <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Cloaking is now really fun, everyone should give it a try <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

sof is great for fades and lerks: you have your own personal temporary parasite: acid rockets ans spikes lol

i like it, its good for hunting down the marines after their base is gone and all

Personally, I like scent of fear when attacking the marine base at the end of a drawn-out game, as I'm usually doing so as a Fade. It allows me to peek and fire and place my bile bombs on the greatest concentration of marines. Cloaking, on the other hand, allows me to do absolutely nothing if they've got an observatory. It also can help a crafty Fade to take out HA by pinpointing when they're chasing and when they're stationary, and when they're waiting just beyond a corner.

Yeah, it's sort of a niche thing, but my biggest complaint would be that wounded allies show up the same as wounded enemies. As I don't really want to bile bomb or play hide and seek with my team, I find that slightly counterproductive.

As many others have posted scent of fear can be a useful upgrade if you know how to use it. It's my favorite onos sensory upgrade. Nothing like knowing where they are if they were stupid enough to fall down an elevator shaft or get bitten and then try to hide in a vent so they can prolong the game. If you really want to make fun of an ability though I suggest you choose advanced hivesight. I think I am the only person that ever uses it, and I only do so because I am color-blind, and my vision is mostly movement based. If the marines had idle animations like in dod or cs (where they breathe) I would never have to use it, but I am just hoping that will be corrected in 1.1. Well, maybe people in the future don't have to breathe, in which case I guess I'm just SOL. Thanks a lot mother nature...
