    Different people have different monitors and conditions they play in, they should be allowed to customize their display.
  • Spyder_MonkeySpyder_Monkey Vampire-Ninja-Monkey Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 8Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    That example above isn't "customizing" the display so much as taking away all visual hinderances everywhere. I don't care what monitor you have, brightness of 9999 is not "tweaking".

    I use this upgrade a lot. Not like the sensory upgrades are all spectacular. Marines cant hide from it.

    I must I say I take serious offense when people jack their gamma and brightness settings to high heaven. Yes, the mod lets you do it, but no it should not be allowed, and certainly not encouraged in the forums. A little tweaking to help deal with ambient glare on your monitor is understandable, but I see a lot of people who completely eradicate any hint of shadow or darkness, which leads to a huge advantage when playing NS. Most of the maps NS have large shadowy areas that help both teams get a jump on their opponents. Major gamma tweaking is cheating, plain and simple.</soapbox>

    Sorry for the rant. It's a pet peeve. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> As to Enhanced Sight, I think it would be much more useful if marines left footprints behind that
    people with enhanced sight could see... or maybe extend it so that they can see through thin walls by picking up on heat signatures.

    Nah, that doesn't work nearly as well as my trick.

    All you have to do is tap F whenever you have trouble seeing. Lights up marines like Christmas trees. No upgrade needed.

    gamma and brightness are NOT ok, but scripts are, am I understanding the rules correctly?
  • Chopper_Dave1Chopper_Dave1 Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2353Members
    I find enhanced sight quite helpful in keeping track of jetpackers, as well as in finding hiding marine defenders. However, movement/defense towers are much more helpful at this point.

    I really wish enhanced sight was worked into normal hive sight - since I never ever have to use normal hive sight under any circumstances. Scent of fear - useless. I've always supported new sensory tower upgrades.

    Enhanced sight is the only sensory upgrade I've gotten in the last couple months. It makes it 10 times easier for me to see where the marine is when I close my jaws and he starts jumping around like a freak. It makes it 10 times easier for me to kill in the dark, since the marine is always bright. I think the reason that most people don't like this upgrade is because they don't realize you need to turn on your flashlight to experience it. I dunno.

    And scent of fear useless? We're talking about an upgrade that essentially parasites every injured marine near you, and that's useless? I'd love to be able to selectively pick the weak target out of a group. And combine that with the fade's acid rocket, and you've instantly revealed any marines hiding around a corner.

    brightness 99999 and gamma 99999 will simply set both to 3

    And half life made it so that gamma and brightness changes dont really mean squat. youll need driver gamma changes and mods that specifically adress the gamma issue like NS does to REALLY makes some drastic changes.

    Yeah, but most injured marines die shortly thereafter. Or get healed. Whenever I've used sense of fear, I've never gotten more than one on my screen at a time (and it's usually an alien).

    I've had ideas about enhanced sight: different color codes for Siege range, defense tower range, OC range, turret range, stuff like that could be displayed as spheres or just colored circles on the ground like comm mode. Would this work, or would it encourage exploits by ppl studying ranges?

    Sh. Try it.

    Really, though, the best trick is this one:

    <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->
    bind "f" "impulse 100"
    <!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

    When you do this, each time you push the F key, the thing you're aiming at is brightly illuminated.
    (edit: sorry, this particular script only works for marines.)

    if you type that exact sentence into console, everytime you press 'f' you will die.
