Statistics Changing Gameplay?

<div class="IPBDescription">NS seems different when there are stats</div> First of all I'd like to give a shout out to Cracker Jack Mack and the |CO| crew for graciously letting me play on their server, Covert Oral Houston. (server-1.covertoral.com) web@ <a href='http://www.covertoral.com' target='_blank'>http://www.covertoral.com</a>
Now I'll get down to the details. Recently, Psychostats was introduced to the CO gaming community, and since then, I've noticed the game goes differently. The good players are on top, as it should be, but I think too much stock is put into the scores and not into the game.
The main attributes of ranking are kills, deaths, kill/death ratio, time on server, kills per minute, and so on. More details can probably be found on the psychostats webpage (just google it, I'm at work ATM) Regardless, scores are being kept of all games played (with some exceptions) and players are ranked accordingly, the good players have the high skill rating, and the not so good players have the not so good skill rating. However.
I mentioned the game has changed. Players are almost afraid to die, they have become a lot more squeamish about just running at something and sacrificing themselves for the team. Instead of planning things out and executing, some just obsess with kills, prolonging matches to teduim to boost stats.
What about players who specialize at commanding/gorging? Would someone with no "skill" be a good commander/gorge, had you seen their name on the stat page?
Stats in a game such as this is like keeping stats of your orcish shaman in War3... Anyway, by the time the round has progressed maybe a minute into the game, you'll be able to tell who can benefit the team, and those who cant.
I dont know how many times I've pleaded with the opposing team (Both sides are guilty of this) to just finish us off. I'll be the first to admit, after having one crazy night of kicking ****, I rose to the #10 spot, and the glory gene must have snapped and I was happy, but then I realized (once again) that the name of this game is teamwork, and that's nothing that can be quantified.
Anyone else's thoughts or experiences with stats or anything related?

Pure evil... *shudder*
I dont know what kinda sicko put this into NS but NS doesn't need a such a poor Death Match Style of stat-recording for ego-boosting megalomanics.
*Psychostats violently impodes sucking all DM-er class NS members to a eternal Q3/CS/UT2k3 convention*
ahem. anyways, the few of us (you included, Kotau) that have any portion of our brain geared to Team-play will continue to function as a team-player in the proper enviroment.
think of it kind like basket ball, and the "Glory player" that hogs the ball, doesn't pass, and tries to do everything single handedly with as much style as possable is the #1 person on the Psychostats site. while, #982348732159 player is a NS team-player, always following orders, advising, helping, communicating.
if NS is gonna be a "Glory player" im out.
if NS is gonna be a #982348732159 player then it's following what its supposed to be. a team-play mod.
hell, i dont even know why aliens just dont have a team-play score and so many people want the "Im better than you" factor.
Once upon a time there was a player named (>'.')> . he was a complete jerk, but comm was silly and gave him stuff. there was no admin on our team, or he just didn't hear us. while i was trying to inform comm of " -[hive]- is clear, TF and phase at -[hive]-". said jerk player continued to spam and bit** about not having his JP and HMG. comm drops shotty and JP, and said player goes off even worse about shottie. "holy jesus," i think "shut the hell up" i say. player gets waxed 15 times due to him going it alone rambo DM style he so seemingly likes. said player leaves. we rejoice in wonderful team-play. aliens quickly trounce us due to time wasted. the end <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
one players "need" can kill the entire game, like in the above story.
Sure, dishing out gear can be a great way to lose, but in those rare instances, it can pay off.
another time, we were on eclipse, we found out early that Eclipse command was thier hive, and some damn fool suggests a mass rush on the hive (it being a 26 server, and 1.094 with faster alien spawn, this wasnt a great idea) Anyway, me and some others rush off to the other hives, hoping to lock them down while the other fools keep the skulks busy/fed. we have 2, 2!!!! Marines in Maintenence, and 2 Computer core hive, we are requesting a phase gate, we spam chat with requests, only to see our res constantly draining. I BEG the comm to drop a phase, we face off against 3 skulks, we are still alive, I PLEAD with the comm to get a phase up, 2 skulks, we survive, im hurting bad, (4 hp and parasited) I BEG for a phase gate, some other marine tells me that the comm is wasting our res on shotguns on noobs who run out to a hive and die constatnly, so we are probably going to lose. 4 skulks come marauding in, me and my buddy die, we lose our chance at comp core, but heres the kicker, as me and my buddy just died, a few seconds later, while its still all black, I hear the Vwoosh of a building being dropped, then I hear the skulks eat it up. Long story short, comm lost us game for dishing out equipment en masse (me and the hive holders had only LMG and pistol, and we were running low on ammo when we started)
As for stat ****, I know one guy, who jumps into the comm chair start of each game, builds stock standard stuff, then spawns himself a shotgun and goes hunting. These kinds of players are the kinds who would benefit from Stats, to stroke their bloody egos. (Alternatively, I love killing this guy, ALOT, simply becasue he thinks hes top Sh*t and some noob like me kills him ^_^ )
Stats will kill NS. unless its funny stats, like most senory chambers knifed, Parasite kills, and other funny stuff. Else stats will be the bane of the NS community.
Bah.

I have to admit the stats part is what originally got me hooked to CS and yes I admit I was obsessed mainly with the special awards part of the servers stats. BUT it didn't make me afraid of being fragged and I usually went with a 50/50% death ratio eath round I played.
now thats what im talking about! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> stats are useless, so get rid of em, each and every last one. all but the <i>team</i> score; the only score that matters. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
if this happens as you say, then yes stats are evil, but the only difference that ive noticed is that i want to get a few more parasite kills under my belt <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (possibly making me a less effective skulk)
