and here's what I noticed.
1. When I first played, it seemed Fades were invincible. But really, if you wait until the've drained their energy then run at them and drain a clip of machine gun ammo and then pistol clip ammo, you'll probably take it down.
2. If you are in close quarters with a skulk and you just emptied a clip of LMG and done huge damage to the walls, air, etc., the aboslute worst thing you can do is reload. Pull out that pistol, drain that clip and then whip out that knife! The knife doesn't suck that bad at all!
3. I've been using the in-game method of joining games, and my screen goes through lots of flickers, and long load times, etc. Is there an easier way to join games?
4. Finally learned to put turret factories against a wall. I was a pretty good commander first time out.
5. Marines usually win in high ppl games, aliens win in low ppl games. All rom res I think.
6. Newbies that won't leave your base unless you deck them out completly are annoying. A fully upgraded marine with just an LMG can do quite a lot of damage. And it's free!
7. I really suck at aliens. I just wait until the hive is up then fade. I can't bite anything.
8. 2 HMG HAs and 1 HA with a grenade launcher, all with welders... tears aliens apart! So long as people take their time.
9. Pistol's a good weapon! For the initial skulk rush I sit at the back of a long corridor with my pistol. I empty it at long range where it's more accurate and still have a full clip of LMG when they get closer. Perfect!
10. If you are a marine with just an LMG and a pistol, and you're wounded, DO NOT SIT IN BASE BEGGING FOR MED PACKS! The truth is, your life is worthless. You would benefit the team far more running off and scouting a hive or something, ANYTHING, you're not worth the toruble or money.
Think about it, what's easier: dying or waiting for a med pack? Hell I'd even recommend /kill. EXCEPTIONS:
a) You are in a good location and maybe need to build things for the team.
b) You have good stuff (note: you can always drop an HMG and /kill)
c) Your base is under heavy assault and there is a reinforcement queue.

2. Yep.
3. All-Seeing Eye is a wonderful program for finding/joining servers. Only ten bucks for a year's subscription, or thirty for a lifetime one, and it works for just about any multiplayer game.
4. Yep.
5. Not necessarily. A good team will still prevail over a disorganized one.
6. Yep.
7. Keep trying, Skulks take a little getting used to, but are very strong for their non-cost.
8. Yep.
9. Yep.
10. Yep.
a) Yep.
b) Only if someone's close enough to pick it up within twenty or so seconds of you dropping it.
c) Yep.
Glad you're enjoying the game!
Has somewhere big and new started linking to natural-selection.org? Has the latest patch caused a surge of interest into these forums? Or am I just wrong.
Welcome Killswitch. It looks like you managed to work out the basics well.
Well said, i value my /kill bind. Don't walk to key location when parasited, jump down a big pit first.
At the same time, it should be said that there are more resources in this game than just res. Time, security, and tactical positions are resources, and loss of life in some circumstances, while not wasting any res, can still cost your team.
Takes most people...never to learn what you have
Everything you said is pretty much true - and while a bad team will almost always lose over a good one, marines definitely have a huge advantage over aliens when players get above 18, and aliens can't lose games less than 6 people.
If you are looking for a good, free alternative to All Seeing Eye, Server Query is excellent, but it does require a bit effort before you will find a consistent list of your favourite servers.
If your target has seen you you have to be very careful and fact. Try to escape if you're far from him. If you're close, try to get closer. If you want to get closer, you'll have to strafe like mad, and parhaps he'll even empty his clip. Then approach and bite.
Turn around a marine. Don't stay at his legs, try to jump on him. Turn around when biting, just as if you were attacking a sentry turret.
If you're too far, parasite him, your teammates will get him soon. If you're too far and have 2 hives, leap on him, he'll never manage to get you.
Practice the leap&bite: Leap, switch your weapons in the air and bite.
If you have upgrades, use them at your advantage: as a skulk I'd suggest:
-[DC]: Carapace because if you have lvl 3 cara you can survive to a lot of marine bullets, and a skulk is weak.
-[SC]: Cloaking because it's great in 1.04; You can even get to the base and parasite every marine that leaves.
-[MC]: It depends, you can take what you want here:
- Adrenaline if you want to leap a lot
- Celerity if you want to be faster
- Silence if you want to eat surprised marines (goes better with cloaking)
And yes, NEVER run straight at a marine, unless you=behind him, with Silence. When you encounter a Heavy Armor it is better to parasite him and gang up before attacking him with bite... ESPECIALLY if he has HMG. GL cannot kill carapaced skulks in one hit I have noticed(TAHT AM ANNOYING).
About the leap&bite thing, make sure you have lastinv bound to a button near your walking keys so you can leap and very quickly switch.
btw you can get The All Seeing Eye here: http://www.updsoft.com/eye/
(hmmm the link button isn't working, anyone else?)
How about you get mIRC for FREE, and HLIT plugin for FREE.

Great website...and free.
Server search for like every game you can imagine.
sun tzu: "appear weak where you are strong and strong where you are weak."
They probabl got the idea from THIS page:

If you don't want to be a freeloading ****, you're obliged to register the product after evaluating it for 21 days. The program isn't crippling itself after 21 days, because they are nice TO YOU. And what do they get in return? A cartload of bull's manure. It's shareware and it's capital B Bad to keep using after that period. ASE is worth the money if you game online stuff like NS, UT etc. Support it and don't start proselytizing for piracy and warezing, m'kay?
as for aliens, dont spam that bite button as you're aproaching him. Not only will this alert the marine you're there, it will also potentially waste your initial bite, which is crucial, your bite only takes effect when your jaws close, so try not to just spam it, ruin your vision and may waste bites. Its disorientating at first, but with experience you wont even notice your jaws taking up your screen. Also, silence is awesome for a skulk, as is celerity for dodging bullets. Adrenaline is a waste on a skulk, some get it by habit though, saving it for fade or Lerk.
As fade or lerk, Lerk is useless without adrenaline (real pitty too, changes coming in 1.1 i think)
Most just use Fades for acid rocket, so get adrenaline if this is what you want as it takes alot of energy, but with celerity in place of adreneline, you are a mellee fighter to be feared! marines just cant escape your claws (note, rushing a HMG/HA isnt a good idea cept from behind...)

You tell em Imma.
Yeah! As PAYING user of ASE I am on a righteous crusade! Besides there are many free utilities that does similiar a job to ASE. No need to pay for it,true, because they aren't exactly levying a monopoly there.

That bite model is most likely hindering your ability, give it a shot
Oh by the way, I wouldn't worry about sucking as alien. The learning curve isn't so much a curve as a vertical line . Stop by the Kharaa Strategy forum and flick back through the older posts, there's a lot of valuable info buried in there.
Earlier I was low on ammo, and the last surviving member of a hive attack team that had met 'greater than expected resistance'. Backup was not comming and I was not going to survive the trip back so with the aid of motion tracking I took out two skulks who closed in, then saw a fade run past so I chased him down and emptied my last clip into his belly - I am not sure who was more surprised when I killed him, after that I chased another fade back to their hive and then chased him round in circles for a minute with only a knife! So a skilled player would have sliced me to ribbons but I saved the team from a minutes worth of acid rockets. Typing /kill is only a little better than hitting F4 because they have onos, always go out fighting.
Also watch out for hitboxes. - the short version:-
dont bite a marines feet - especially not when he is on a ladder
dont try to hit a HA marines in the head
shoot skulks and gorges on highest point of the ridge of their back - not the head
lerks hitbox is the rear half and half a Lerk above unless they are flying
then it is rear half and half a lerk below
Fades should be shot in the belly - never the face
Onos have a very small hitbox, where was it again? just infront of the hind legs I think.
When playing a lerk and shooting spikes ignore the tracer spikes - you always hit in the crosshair regardless of what it looks like.
Oh, and learn to hold you fire (as alien too) only attack when you have the most to gain from it. dont try to chase down every marine and skulk cos it may be me just trying to buy some time!
