but why does this happen?
Ok this looks EXTREMELY funny - I changed the skluk model so that it has a marines hand stuck between its teeth lol

But look at the model - the mouth has become elongaded? I didnt change anything except placing the hand on its mouth and assigning it to a bone. Why would this happen?

I know next to nothing about models, especially v_models, but my guess is that you somehow repositioned the joint corresponding to where the player actually is, so the model is being displayed farther away from the player.

    1) did you use kratisto's decompiler?
    2) did you edit $eyeposition or $origin in any way?

Looks like a $origin problem. Try editing the origins.

I find the elongated model cooler then just teeth ! But I suppose it looks really bad in animation

But I shouldnt need to edit the origins. Nothing is changed. I didnt even touch the Skulk itself - just added the arm.

it's been a very long time since i did any editing, and that was only ever for dod buuuuuuuuuut, when you recompile, aren't the origins set to 0, meaning, will you have to find the default origins, edit the qc accordingly and then compile? try it, it may work, worst that could happen is that i'll be proved wrong.

did you use tools>kratisto's hl model decompiler or the default ms one? because the default ms decompiler seems to make the model go all strange

As Jim said, the -ONLY- way to decompile HL models in MS3D is Kratisto's way. Just going Tools->Half-Life->any of the three "Decompile" actions gets you nothing but probable grief. Instead, hit Tools and scroll further down, to "Kratisto's HL MDL Decompiler 1.01" [at least, it's 1.01 in the latest version of MS3D].

The model's an interesting idea! I like that. But I would've used the marine V_model hand, not the player model. Too few polies. Looks horrendous that close up.

After using this new compiler - and then recompiling, I have more errors now than I ever did with the other. In fact with the other I have no errors. Obviously since it recompiled. But not I get illegal bone allignments after using Kratisto's decompiler.
  • JimJim Join Date: 2002-11-26 Member: 9989Members
if you decompiled the other one you decompiled, you won't gain anything. get hold of the original skulk mouth, use kratisto's, add in the hand then recompile - it should work then

Ok here is what it looks like now. Still very elongated. I played with the eye origins for about 2 hours and finally gave up because they never made any difference.

Anyone want me to email this to them and see if they can fix it?
