    Apparently, the worldspawn entity has somehow been deleted. QuArK wouldn't even let me open up the .map because there's no worldspawn.  Hope this helps...

    looks like SOMEONE has used a bsp decompiler <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    I looked around at this and wasn't exactly sure what was wrong.. but it was pretty weird. I know he's a complete newbie to mapping, and for his first map this is pretty good.. but there were lots of intersecting brushes, and this weird midair staircase. Tell the guy to keep up the great work, but this looks like it might need to be scrapped.

    you have them. they're all from either ns.wad or halflife.wad, with a couple I think from zhlt.wad maybe.

    ::::looks like SOMEONE has used a bsp decompiler:::::

    wrong. what *did* happen, however, was that SOMEONE used WorldCraft for the first time and tried to use all the different tools. No WinBSPC here, just me using "carve" and a bit of vertex manipulation to try to get rid of all the intersecting worldbrushes.

    well, it looks just as bombed as a decompiled bsp <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    It is indeed missing a Worldspawn entity, I confirmed this in Worldcraft. No Worldspawn, no compile.

    However... it's surrounded by a NULL textured box, a big no-no. I'd suggest starting this map over again. It's pretty small so it wouldn't take long to redo, plus it'd be good practice. Whoever did this needs lots of practice with texturing, since it looked... ummm... ugly (Couldn't think of a nicer description).

    This should also teach you that carving is evil.

    n00b mappers only use carve alot because they get told to do it in the WC tutorial.  The only reason the tutorial tells you to carve is so you can quickly see some progress.

    Stop fuelling the misunderstanding about the carve tool. Theres nothing wrong with it <b>when used in the right circumstances</b>

    There is a reason Mr Morris included it in the help tutorials.

    I'm not anti-carve. I agree with n@rby, if used carefully carve has it's place.  In my last post I was just pointing out to delete_me why n00bs tend to use carve inappropriately.

    Yeah, I use carve every now and then, it's just that I post where everyone who comes for help is rather new, so if I mention carving is ok under the right circumstances, it gets used out of hand. Thus is why I am trained to  simply say carving shouldn't be used most of the time.

    I appologize.
