A Call To Skilled Players

Please try to ballance games.
This may seem obvious to many of the forumgoers, but i just have to say this.

On the servers i play on i see a lot of regulars, clantags and some other really good players. Over and over i see them pooling to the alien team, utterly slaughtering the marines, or sometimes all going marine for a brutal 2 hive lockdown and lengthy cleanup.

I say it is every skilled players responsibility to try and make every game as ballanced as possible. Stay back in the readyroom until the new players have choosen teams. Talk to the other regulars and try to distribute evenly across the teams, and if the Marines are biting the dust too much tip the scale a bit in their favor.

We can all sit around crying to Flayra to ballance the game back and forth, or we can take action and ballance it ourselves to make every game as fun as possible.

i think the thing is that ppl dont like being on a team with a bunch of n00bs, so they go play with ppl that that know aren't stupid

hmm, i would balance it, but the reason I was on that team in the first place is to play with my friend .... and yea, that noob factor is defiitly one, if you join the aliens and realize they not only made sensory first, well not that bad, can work around it, but realized they only made ONE sensory, so its horrid, like 1 defense, and not only made ONE, but made it on a resource nozzle... yea.. so , heh, im always teaching noobs how to play, but sometimes i just want to play..

maybe ill balance if its eveyone i know .. other than that, pfft..

one game... alll the clanners went aliens, i was an alien and wondered why, but when the commander dropped the 4th resource tower with not a marine in site, and i munched it unmolested, i figured out why...

I go random every single game i play, such is the responsibility of having cajones. However there is nothing more disheartning on Joe's server than ending up on Aliens with 1 other guy i recognize and surrounded by 8 unknowns and NSplayer(#) AND THEN to see 5 names i recognize and 5 clantags show up on marines. All i can do is look at the experienced teamate looking at me and whimper softly.

Ronin: "ok everybody get to cargo theyll be assualting in less than a minute, get ready to ambush"
Noob1: "wheres cargo"
noob2: "whos assaulting?"
Noob3: "Think ill turn into a gorge to suprise them!"
Noob4: "Ohh me too!"
Noob5: "how do you play this game?"
Experienced player: "welcome to hell Ronin, enjoy your stay"

experienced player has left the game, free public slots changed to 1

Ronin: "whimper"
noob3: "cool i can shoot now! everybody go gorge"

Well... my point exactly.

If all those clanners would divide to both teams and maby one of them would command (or cheerfully help the commander), you might have had a more fun and challanging game.

I really dont get clanplayers teaming up as aliens on pubs, proudly proclaiming the abundance of arse they are kicking, facing a team of J03_H4xx0R's and NS_Player's. Where is the challange? Where is the fun?

Ok. you go autoteam every time. Good.

But what i would like to see (wishfull thinking) is most of the people you recognize on the server stay in the readyroom to see how the teams turn out, and then fill them up evenly. Thats what i thought the readyroom was for? Maby a simple server message telling people to think about which team to join and how it affects the ballance.

The Real problem with joining the team that needs help is similar to the problem faced when the marines have 2 hives totally locked down. The reason they are losing is the same reason they won't be able to stage a comeback, they lack teamwork and communication. I try and help new players as much as I can and have even kicked people for bashing a new gorge that was trying to learn. That said, I too sometimes just want to play and not teach, and playing on a team of n00bs is no fun.

If all the skilled players just go random, then most of the time the talent should be balanced. Although you dont get better by playing people that are equally or less skilled, you get better by playing with better people.

I always go random, so does most of my clan.

CoFR asks that everyone use the join random team gate, but some regulars rarely do. I also like to go marine/alien/marine/alien or some variant of that whenever I play (keeps me fresh on both sides of the fence) but random team seems to always put me on the same team.
• SavantSavant Join Date: 2002-11-30 Member: 10289Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
What I think they should do is make the readyroom so that in the first five minutes of the game ALL gates = 'random team'. That way there is no team stacking, After the 5 minute mark, allow people to choose teams if they so desire. I'd speculate that MOST people wouldn't wait to join a specific team. So the skil balance would be maintained. Then any people who want to join a specific team can do so after the majority of people have already set the tone for the game. This option would be disabled in tournament mode.

Savant

But what if the teams are 5 on 5, and you want to go marines ;/ Random puts you on aliens.

simple rule.
Always join the tema with more admins and clantags.
• SavantSavant Join Date: 2002-11-30 Member: 10289Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
The idea is that a person has to wait 5 minutes so that the teams will 'auto-balance' skillwise and then if they REALLY want a particular team they can join. It's not the number of players that matters, it's the SKILL of the players that matter.

I played on a server once where the admin FORCE started games after every game finished. (which puts all players on a random team) While I was initially miffed (since I had planned to play on a particular team) I found that we had GREAT games since the teams were quite even. There was a mix of vets and noobs on both sides. Those that didn't like it had to quit the server and rejoin, but very few bothered.

I think making people wait 5 minutes (to pick a team as opposed to going random) would discourage most team unbalancing, and would improve gameplay. Which is what we're after right?

Regards,

Savant

i always hop in the random team at the very start of every game

(i aways seem to end up on alien most of the time )

I always tend to join alien. I just can't stand all the ineffectiveness with marines. Countless times you see the TF placed wrong, people not going in teams, commander not talking at all... Just drives you crazy and it's even worse as the commander. I talk, give advice and stuff, but it usually won't help. With aliens you can fix the situation by gorging yourself and you can destroy poorly placed TFs and then bases alone. Try to take a wall of lame out with an LMG as a marine with nobody backing you up. Yeah, right. Sometimes people just "fool around" (I do that too, have to admit) and don't actually finish the marines even though they have onos, but camp near marine base and just tease em. Since people don't F4, this can last even for an hour. It goes without saying that it's pretty sh*t to notice this happening as a marine. "Let's just F4 already, they are not even trying to finish us off". I've said this many, many times and then I might get 1 people to F4 with me. For some strange reason, I haven't seen marines teasing aliens too much. Sure, you can always be a Saint and join "poor marines", but that's just like fighting windmills. Not my idea of spending 2-3 hours that are supposed to be quality time

P.S. I'm aware that this kind of attitude would be really, really bad if it was commonly "accepted", but I doubt many people would take any bad influences from me (or even read this thread). I'm counting on the fact that there will be enough "good" people who try to make the best of marines and sometimes succeed. I've played on marine side many times and won.

I usually go alien due to bad experiences with commanders I guess the other reason is that even if everything goes down the drain, you can still have fun with some skulking even if you're losing.

i almost always go marines if possible, marine is so boring to me, just like playing every other game:/

I don't usually random team, but I never stack either. I usually join the team I feel like playing on. If I feel like killing stuff a lot, then I go aliens. If I feel like either giving out or following orders and playing as a cohesive team (well, unless there are an excess of n00bs) then I go marines. And when I just don't care, then I go random.

The system works pretty well for me, since I have team 1 and team 2 bound to different keys and often change moods between games. And I join before knowing my teammates, so it's still all good. Like random team, but more...in my control =).

Great. I am happy to see that so many people play to have fun. Uneven teams are so boring, even for the winning team.

The best games I've had are the ones where both teams don't rush to secure 2 hives. The games had a bit of that noobish feel, but they were a lot of fun. (and even)

However, having good players on your team does not warrant a victory.
I commed in a game today on ns_tanith. The "good" marines seemed to care little for winning the game and they all went out in search of the gorge and attack the hive or whatever. I couldn't even secure one single location, since one lone marine could not set up a base.

I bet the grunts had a great time, but I wept as all our restowers got chewed by lone skulks after the lone marine was swiftly disposed of.

I've used random team door since 1.0 and because of that Im usually always in the losing team Aliens in 1.0, Marines in 1.02, 1.03 was quite balanced, 1.04 Marines

Anyway, I can't undestand why clanners MUST go to same team. I mean, isn't it fun to kill someone you know, your own clanmate? Or are you too afraid to fight on eachother because you don't want to get killed by your own and then you won't be "respected" or something like that? Silly.
