Muzzleflash Sprite

Muzzleflash sprite
I have read many posts about muzzleflashes, and both schools of thought on the subject.

I see I am not alone in my inability to see what I am shooting at. Maybe you guys and gals with better videocards, monitors and framerates don't have a problem. But the truth of the matter is that I have never had this problem with any other game or mod I have played.

So instead of whining about it I made a fix. It is a muzzleflash sprite of my own design that is about 50% smaller than the original, which is to say about the same size as most half-life mods you are apt to find.

Thought I'd share it

"about 50% smaller than the original"? Depends on how you define size. Ramses made a good comparison thread here: http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...ST&f=10&t=22635

Multiple screenshots in multiple resolutions show that in terms of pure horizontal x vertical size, the muzzle flash is actually very reasonable--it's just more "full" than the star-like shape we're used to seeing in other games.

Actually, it has nothing to do with how big the sprite is guys. It has to do with how big the game engine has been told to display it.

You say you want proof? look at Counter-Strike. The M4 (colt) uses the same sprite for unsilenced and silenced firing. BUT when firing silenced the muzzleflash is barely visible.

I've never had or noticed a problem with the muzzle flash. I run at 1280x1024 (1280x960 in-game) and I've NEVER seen my muzzle-flash cover up my crosshairs.

And it sure as hell doesn't take up 1/3 ( ) of the screen!

I did some testing a while back with LMG muzzle flash and capping my FPS. At <40 FPS the flash is a solid morphing blur. At >45 FPS it is distinctly flickering and allows you to see through it if you pay attention.

    Just a heads-up.

Discussing exploits, scripting, AND moaning about the games art in one thread?
