Man I wish PlagueBearers Old Post Was Webbed . . .
4 types of lighting techniques used in preffesional maps:
1) plain text lights in walls such as comp pannels that give off a dull ambience
2) text lights with light entities in front where the text light comes in proximity to a wall (strip lights etc)
3) spotlights shining downwards
4) induvidual light entities at a low light level to highlicht computere screens, diffrect form beneath/above pipes and to draw the eye into hard to see focal points such as vents near teh ceiling (low level reds or greens for this)
- text lights reduce entity count
thank you i need to know i am correct about these things then i can get cracking. I know what makes lighting look good im just not exactly sure how they were done in this particular mod and i want to make sure.
I used a similar lighting style/technique extensively in ns_nothing. The only performance issue I encountered as a result was increased r_speeds. There were, though, several other drawbacks from the use of the grills... such as an incredibly high - and hard to contain - leaf count.
If you use something like this to light your level, be sure to keep a constant eye on your limits.
Func_wall with ZHLT opaque flag. Maybe. I dunno.

That will increase your RAD times a fair bit. I added 4 func_walls with light blocking propertires to 11th_hr, it extended the compile time by 2 hours.
I tried that. Even MonsE's SHODAN wasn't able to compile it afterwards. D:
