It looks like the new AVP game is going to have Natural Selection tacked onto the end of it name what does this mean are you going to have to change the mod name? Or because guys had the name first do you have the rights to the name?

Nah, this has been brought up before.

This NS was here first, and the name is fully copyrighted. It isn't going to change. At least that's what I gathered.

I have an idea. since Fox undoubtedly has a crack team of lawyers working for them, how about you guys let them know in a big, obvious gesture the name of the game you're making, and how long you've been working on it. That way, you don't pounce on them the moment they're about to release it and get into a long, twisted legal battle that you guys may lose just because of your cash supply.

For instance, you could post a nice, big flash movie on the AvP "ideas" forum, providing they have one. Alternatively, you could play by their rules and call their legal department. I'd just hate to see you all get tied up in a legal battle that would end badly for the game.

sheesh guys use commas. and do you know how much or popularity would jump if NS sued? gamespot and sites like that report on when those things happen all the time. you would get at least 100 intelligent gamers who went and did a search for natural selection after reading one of those articles.

Ok Ill break the news, As the staff for AvPNews and AvPNetwork I declare the following.
Fox has no quaral with the Half-Life Modification, Natural Selection. Even though the game falls into the Marines vs Aliens genra, As does the origional Half-Life, no likeness of any copyrighted Material exists. Also, The MOD in its nature is FREE and theirfore the distribution of even "Aliens" Mods, such as LV-426, is leagal as long as the development team does not accept any payment in any form for the creation of this mod. Hence the Mods for AvP and AvP 2 are also exempt from leagal action.
Fox also wishes to thank the Natural Selection development team for activly trying to stay away from use of Aliens Material and wish you good luck on the mod.
On a side note, The Name Natural Selection is not the same as Aliens Vs Predator 2: Natural Selection.

Yeah, I figured there wouldn't be a case since AvP is in front of the name.

Interesting about the 'All mods are legal, even if they're Aliens themed mods'. Didn't know that the mod that got Foxed was Foxed for taking MONEY for the Aliens stuff...

I'm quite confused about all this. As far as I've read, whether you make money with a tradename or not doesn't matter. It's whether you're infringing on the tradename or not.

Everyone, may I <b>PLEASE</b> as you to keep this all quiet. Whether or not FOX knows about us or not, I do not know, but I don't want to give them any extra advantages if they choose to fight us, so please keep this to yourselves. Hicks, I'd appreciate the same from you as well. The last thing we need is a legal battle.
