living one day at a time.
well i've been on DirectTV dsl for a year or so. Just last month they announced that they we're going out of business. Of course I had endless phone calls from other DSL providers that they had a good offer for me and such. Pac Bell decides to call me and offer me dsl for $30 a month for a whole year. I was like ok and they said they will have my modem out in a week. It's been 3 weeks and 2 of which spent without the internet. I'm dying, guys. I live and play online. Some one give me a shot of dsl. I needs it badly, yo. I think im gonna go cable, already Pac Bell is showing bad service.

I have that same problem during summer break. At college, I have a fast T1 connection, but then I go home to the dial up, not even 56K modem. Its a living hell, its so slow.

*takes out syringe and needle, and gives doctorskizo a 300cc shot of pure dsl*

i've been hearing good things about cable lately. i think i should go with that. i know in my area, the cable line wont be saturated for a long time. since more people know about dsl, there's a larger chance of the line being saturated. but the price for cable is 60 a month, im at a crossroad.

I hate BT because they are "@$&($£$%**(?:@%: $£@%^:$% @:$% ^@:$%...ards who wont install adsl in my exchange cos not enough people want it.

IMO bt should be shut down by the governmet for being so crap, and then let the best of the rest fight for it.

Oh, and the board of directors of BT should be shut in a room full of babblers, then regenerated, and the shut in again, the regener.....

have T1 at the school, where my pc is most of the time, but here in the winter holidays it's home with my adsl, which doesn't work on mine, but on my parent's pc's, so i can't play online, so im kinda bored.
but im getting Generals(and Giants: citizen kabuto)on wednesday-thursday, then im not going to be bored...

I'm feeling you. I feel it.

Had earthlink DSL for about a year and now I moved in with my mom (from dads- -whole story unto itself). She only has AOL 56k connection but her phone lines are old so the fastest i can connect is 26400bps. ouch. its a hard hit but she is going to cable or satalite in a month or so. Until then i am stuck like chuck.

I here you man. I moved back to the States from Korea last year to the crap hole of the United States, Alamaba. 80% of South Korean housholds have DSL connections! While I'm wasting away on 56K. Adlephia came and dug up my back yard putting in new fiber optic lines. I was soppsed to get cable last Fall, and nobodys answering my e-mails at Adlephia.

Well if you live in the middle of nowhere I'm sure that LEVEL3 would be happy to put a phat pipe in your house for a "phat" check.

Oh, first I would get cable, after it's up for a month order DSL, it took Qwest 5 months to come and bring a dsl modem to my house, while attbi cable did it in 4 days after I ordered.
• doctorskizodoctorskizo Join Date: 2002-07-31 Member: 1035Members, Constellation
my friend tells me that att is doubling their upload speed to 256 (at least in his area). im still iffy on the price because i still have to pay the $50 for the outlet setup plus the first month's fee. that $110 for the first month and then 60/mo afterwards. i would go with dsl because of the 30/mo offer but i try calling them to **** about the dsl being late, i was on hold for at least a half an hour. effing b1tches. how is kovad? anyone have kovad dsl?

I feel bad for anyone with a ping of 300+

I used to have a ping of 600+ (MSN Qwest) until summer of last year. No one quite understood how much of an effect your ping has on you. Finally, I can now get some revenge

Dude, don't get sat. The way sat works is that you connect with a modem, then when you request something it gets blasted through your sat dish all at once about 10 secs later. Great for large downloads but you can't play games on it. At all.
• doctorskizodoctorskizo Join Date: 2002-07-31 Member: 1035Members, Constellation
I know about the satellite connections, my friend had it when he moved in to the dorms at my school. basically he couldn't do anything online except browse the internet. im gonna go kill some people soon if i dun gets my broadband. in the mean time, maybe i'll actually study.

I used to be on satilite.

With satilite, the weather now controls when you download and when you dont download.

If it makes any of you feel any better about your "crap connections" and stuff, my best 'mech stopped working on Sunday night of this week and won't work until I reformat this weekend.

I'm currently doing all my computer work and entertainment (including typing like this) from a Toshiba 335CDT laptop I've owned since...let's see here...at the end of this school year, it'll be 5 years old. 4 gigs of hard drive space, 32 megs of ram, on-board sound, no 3d accelerator, 45 minutes of battery time (used to be 2 hours) and a 266mHZ pentium processor (not pentium 2, pentium 1. To make it sound better I call it pentium "classic").

Couple that with a (supposedly) 56k modem in a PCMCIA slot that takes up the only phone line in the house when I'm online, and you've got major suckage compared to my normal 'mech, which I built only a year and a half ago. I'm very proud of her. Even after all this time all I'd change now is the video card (GeForce2) and perhaps the sound card (which I think gave me these problems).

I guess I should be thankful my school has a long weekend coming up to start my decent computer up from scratch.

You have to drain every last bit of charge out of your laptop battery then recharge it and it will work reasonably well again. It has to be absolutly and utterly flat! No power left in it at all. Try it see what happens.

Out house uses Eclipse for ADSL, and it works pretty fine. Had one unexplained outage for an afternoon in about 18months. You get eight IPs, no port throttling, no explicit download limits (T&C say don't screw evryone else up), got the install done fine, and even handled when we moved up the road nicely (got to keep IPs and everything).

This is in the UK.

yeh so i called direcway satallite to talk to them about their service...

that crap is $600 to install and $60 a month! plus you have to have their software running meaning trouble setting up a network at my house. also, the sales representative told me that if i was going to be using it for gaming then id be best going with somthing else.

thanks guys. saved me from a big BIG hassle.

Aslo you sign a contract for a year of service and if you break it then bam $700 to remove the junk from your roof and you have to hassle with getting their software off your comp.

christ i miss simple earthlink dsl
