<div class="IPBDescription">read and reply</div> ok, i've got many many many questions.....

but first, about me...

i'm a n00b modeler...and i've read all the tutorials in the "modeling 101" thread...i'm working on my first edit of a model...a new knife...

----------------------------------------
let the questions begin
----------------------------------------
1.)why on earth would i use Gmax?
2.)how do you make/edit groups in Milkshape?
3.)if i edit in Gmax, where do i get a game pack for Half Life?
4.) should i export via Gmax's Tempest? (to quakes 3)
5.) what neds to be done to a Q3 model to have it mesh ok with the NS bones?
6.)can i export to a Q3 model while having empty holes in my model?
7.) to prevent these empty holes, how do i create a face in gmax?
8.)why isn't there a website that confronts these issues?
9.)what program should i use to edit models?

----------------------------------------
thank you for your time, and i hope you can help me out somehow

    you might want to use gmax because (If I think rightly D:) it's a dumbed-down version of 3ds max, but I'm not sure <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    *refrains from posting any frustrated, hurtful, or any other way unacceptable comments towards morgoth*

    well, it's a free version of the popular 3ds software... made SPECIFICALLY for making models for "your favorite game".... AKA, quake 3...

    i've got a student "learning" version of 3ds max 5.... but it's the lame 30 day fully functional version... i'de use that mroe, but it's not gunna be any use to me in another 28 days.....

    *thinks of something acceptable to say to morgoth*

    when somone's asking for help....try and help... and if you don't want to try and help....... DON'T POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OK, I'll have a go:

    (1) because it's a free version of 3dsmax designed with games output in mind
    (2) not entirely sure. I think whenever I do things I wing it.
    (3) there isn't one
    (4) going via q3 is probably the best way to go
    (5) resize it to roughly fit an imported NS skeleton, then assign vertices to joints.
    (6,7,8) I know nothing
    (9) I use MS3D - it's not the best or most powerful by far, but it's easy (ie good for beginners like myself) and cheap.
