Wondering about voice communication

Did you get the memo?
I think it would be sweet for the Marine only( aliens would have to talk in an alien languge) if they could use the new 1.1.0.8 Voice com thing. I was thinkin, they could either start with it or it could be something reasearched. I dont think aliens should be able to use it though. Or, if you have something already in mind id like to hear what it is. If i dont have to die after hearing it. Preferebly.

Both teams can use the VoIP. Limiting it to one team only would give that team a -huge- advantage (except for the fools who choose not to use it), and what you have to think of the VoIP as is fast conveyance of concepts. Disabling it for the aliens would be like disabling chat for the terrorists on CS.

Keep in mind that some people have ancient computers that don't translate voice recognition too well. Mine, I can't even tell what they are saying. Sounds like the people talking are all straigt up retarded.

Voice Recognition doesn't equal Voice over IP. Voice over IP is just your computer recording your voice, compressing it much like turning a wav into an MP3 is, and sending it over the internet. Only it does this with tiny little parts of your voice several times a second.

Voice Recognition isn't in NS. VoIP is.

LOL! Ok, you may have a point there, but chatting is -still- important. The VoIP just makes chatting easier.

I dunno a whole lot about voice recognition, but it would be very cool if it could be modified so when used in NS it would sound like it was over a radio.

Shoven don't use the term voice recognition, if half-life were capable of that then bots could be ordered around using voice over IP.

i thought it was already in NS, me was under the impression all mods had it by now??
But i have a sucky mike, it's one of those that comes build-in in your screen

Voice over IP (the voice communication) IS in NS.

Voice Recognition, which is in -no- mod, and usually requires very advanced programs, and is usually used for word processing and controlling your computer without hands is NOT in NS.

The technology exists with the HL engine with patch 1108 for VoIP software to be used, however mod-developers decide if they want to implement it or not. Not all mods need it.

However (just to make sure everything is -perfectly- clear), NS -will- be using it. For -both- teams.

Does having a SBLive count as ancient?

Seriously, voice comm is HUGELY overrated, the only time I've ever been able to distinguish what anyone was saying was when there was little ambient noise in the background, and even then it sounds retarded.

EDIT: I think there's a few bugs to be worked out in this forum software...
  • TalionTalion Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 28Members
I too use a SBLive, and my voice works pretty reasonably. There are clearly some problems with the VoIP but generally it is reliable, especially for those with low pings.
