I Die Because I Am Slow

<div class="IPBDescription">due to my hardware</div> I have this horrible problem that causing me to move (i.e. walk and run) at 2/3 speed in Half-life, including ALL the mods, CS, DoD, and yes NS. I don't know what causes it but I'm assuming it's my hardware because when I formatted and reinstalled everything the problem did not go away.

So now when I try to chase down a marine as a skulk I can't unless I have celerity, as a human I can't run away from ANYBODY, and as a gorge I'm just plain dead.

It really doesn't bother me that much in NS because I've learned to compensate but it still irks me when people gloat over my corpse because I was unable to perform a successful escape manuever.

This makes me a sad panda <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    All of my cl_forwardspeed, etc settings are normal. I tried it right after I formatted and it was the same.

    Thanks for the hug <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Hmm, it couldn't possibly be your keyboard setup could it? Unless it's just halflife, it sounds as though the computer could be having trouble reading the keys. Maybe

    Pretty sure that's not it. I had a problem with not being able to crouch and move (and other things) in BF1942 and I installed different keyboards and drivers and that fixed nothing, although I don't know if I checked HL.

    This wasn't supposed to be a tech support question. It was supposed to be a complaint. I know I can't fix the problem so I want to complain about it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If this is happening in 2 different games (bf42 + HL) then this is definitley a windows issue... try using the windows default keyboard drivers.... also try all the default peripheral drivers...

    And next time post this in the help forum! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    No, these are two different problems (I think). In half-life I only RUN slow. In BattleField I cannot move while crouching, I have problems zooming in and out with weapon scopes and various lag-related issues that do not appear when I play single-player. I haven't tested the movement issues in HL out in single player, come to think of it. I'll try that tonight.

    Just because they are different games does not mean they will react the same way to a driver issue... It may not be a keyboard problem but there is a definite issue within windows itself.

    p.s. Will some mod please move this thread to the help forum so all the techie heads can see it? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Blunt force usually solves my computer-related problems... strange... may even be a motherboard problem reading your keyboard connector thingy (Whatever its called).

    What's your system, anyway? As specific as possible.

    What type of keyboard do you use? PS2?

    Try using a USB keyboard if your using a PS2.

    Otherwise... I dont know.

    Go to a 'generic keyboard driver' in windows, probably something called "Generic 104-key keyboard or something" See if that fixes it... if not...

    Borrow a keyboard and try and see if the same problems persist.

    And despite the weird results, don't be too hesitant to suggest keyboard hardware problems--I've seen some strange things which I thought were Windows going beserk but were really my keyboard.
