<div class="IPBDescription">very werid, can ya help?</div> it started some time ago and i found no one who has helped.
i have done nothing specfic to any part of hardware that would directly or indirectly affect the keyboard.
it happens in some games and others it works fine, as with windows all my keys work, HOWEVER!
when pressing the number keys 1 - 9 this is what i would receive in windows.
12345678
i did a test in nortons keyboard diagonstis check and it gives me this.
H key pressed
, key pressed
F9 key pressed
Num Del key pressed
no key name key pressed
no key name key pressed
no key name key pressed
no key name key pressed
no key name key pressed
no key name key pressed
and as i have seen in half-life console i hit the 1 key and i see an H.
other such keys that don`t work are the, escape key that thinks its a w, back space that is not even a key along iwth underscores and plus signs ECT ECT.
now this is all very werid, what is even werider is that it only happens in some games and sometimes it can even fix itself and i haven`t done anything then the next day it would go back and i haven`t even done anything to my computer!
it might be keyboard drivers or something but i haven`t found any, anyone got any ideas? on how to fix it or what is causing this ?
P.S. yes, i have tryed a diffrent keyboard, no diffrence. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

I have windows XP and the exact same problem was happening with me:
<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
I have a solution, and it may apply to more than just WinXP...
The Print Spool service, identified by the spoolsrv process (or along those lines), causes this in some fricking round-about way that I have no bleeding factual information on. Anywho, if you end the process it will fix it, for a time. I say for a time, because the problem recurred once and thought my theory blew, but not so. If you do not set the print spool service to "disabled" it will pop up laters, which bites. Because when I have to task switch, my sound then blows, so I have to exit CS whenever it occurred.
You can fix it by ending the process (temp fix to see if it really works I guess) or perma fix it by going under Control Panel --> Admin Tools --> Services , and then scrolling to the Print Spool service, and richt-click, prop's, and then change it from Auto to Disabled.
Sorry if this sounds like I'm treating you like a computer newbie, but I know that there are people who are just full-on gamers and wouldn't know how to pull off that.

i killed it but it still has keys all messed up, althought now you mention all about printing, it DID kinda start happening around the time i installed special drivers for a colour laser printer we got. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
hmmmmmm very interesting.
i don`t seem to see anything resembling your stuff in your XP control panel
Well, personally, I would now be telling you to just uninstall me and install dos if you want something stable that works.
But, not personally, I don't know the exact way of trying to fix it for ME... I'm sure if you scanned the stuff listed in the Config.sys Autoexec.bat win.ini etc. etc. etc., (use "sysedit" from the run bar) and looked for print loading stuff) to temporarily disable it and see if it works...
Out of sheer curiousity, are there any similarities between the two different keyboards you tried? If so, try and do something dif; I'm aiming towards "they are both usb" or "both ps/2", because if they were, you could attempt something significantly different...
Also:
I would suggest looking at the device driver for the keyboard, i think in ME it's Control Panel --> Sys --> Hardware --> Device Manager or something along those lines, you're looking for the device manager, essentially... And, check to see how many key count the driver it's using has, and compare them to how many keys your keyboard has.
Also v.2:
If MsConfig exists in Me, boot it up from the run bar (msconfig), and see what sort of startups you have running; disable them all and try again. If it fixes it, narrow it down, blah blah blah.

If everything works fine in Windows AND in most games then I'd leave that alone and concentrate of your HL install. Now how you try this depends on your technical (and Half-Life) knowledge. The 'easy' methods would be:-
Uninstall HL and then remove the HL folder, use the search function to search your system for other Half-Life manifestations and remove them too, if your feeling brave check your registry for Half-Life related keys/values - make backups of anything you change and tread carefully! Then re-install Half-Life, patch to 1.1.1.0 and add one mod, (NS). See if it all works ok, if it does add another mod and check again. Write protect your cfg files before you play online.
Second suspect would be DirectX related? Have you gone to Dx9 or some 'unofficial' release/beta? Run dxdiag.
Need more info,.
i have deleted any connections to printers and told other bits of windows i am useing british keyboard, gotta restart just check in a min, no such spooler has yet been found and i not a complete dumb nutz to computers so yeah i checked all over start up locations and looked around in the regestry.
i think if it was a pysical problem with the keyboard then it would happen all the time, so i would be thinking its software.
man, i done the HL delete reinstall, folder/registry deletes, patching a couple of months ago when it was really anoying me and it didn`t help AAARRGG! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
this also happens on, sof2, jedi knight 2, moh, return to castle wolf, norton diagonstics.
although strangly doesn`t affect gta3,ut 2003,hitman 2 or c&c renegade.
hmmmmmph <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> still broke <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
BTW - don't take Norton's advice that your system is clean, get it checked by some software that works <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
god damn norton can`t even see trojans thats encrypted but kaspersky can see them as being all jumbled up so its cleva <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ya errr hmmmmm.
but norton utilities is quite good y`know but its diagonstics is the only real way i can see that whats going on in-game, if you know what i`am saying.
i press the escape key in hl and it makes me walk foward, at first u would think its a bind fault, but norton can give confirmation that my escape key thinks its W.
P.S. the quake engine! man are you sure return to wolf uses the quake engine? and how about sof 2 or jedi knight 2, no way does that use quake engine, it all looks soo smooth and little particles <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
i think the engine is completly unrealated really! just look at nortons diagonstics, no engine.
werid huh?
i think its got more to do with HOW the game is seeing the keys pressed, not with how anything is being displayed.
