I was wondering.. Is the cel shade effect possible in all MODs? Just thinking cause I thought it would be quite intresting in NS. Actually if it is, can someone just convert the original marine to a cel shaded one?

<a href='http://www.cybcity.com/jediyoshi/scout.zip' target='_blank'>Here's an example of it, just pop it up in HLMV or in TFC as "new models"</a>

^^ Save target as

ah..so thats how cell shaded models work. you just have to extrude some areas of the model so there are black surfaces extending from the model in all views.

note the link says save target as. which is the same as geocities, so copy/paste or right click save target...
and as for the cell shading it CAN double the polys depends on how you do it..everything can be done in many ways.

buzzybots mod has been using faux cell shading for ages now, it doubles the models polycount.

Um, what about just making a cel shaded skin? Simple colors and lines between different parts of the mesh. Although player meshes deform, and that could ruin the borders...

if you simply put lines all over the skin (along the contours and such) it would just show up as big black lines all over the model, rather than only a few showing up while the rest are un-noticed.

However, buzzybots is pretty much the most compact and less requiremented MODs out there.

Also, to the skin idea, you would be missing the black outline from all angles prospect <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    hey guys!

well thats not really cel shader.
ive done it before... basically what you do is:
you get the model and CLONE IT in the same place
then you scale it up just a little
then you FLIP all the faces and assing a black texture to it. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

its like the "SHOW BACKFACES" in 3ds max or in milkshape... so you just flip all the faces
and yes it double the polycount since theres 2 models in 1

That is NOT Cel-shading on those models. That is a lame ploy to "attempt" it. Real cel-shading works somehow with increasing the mesh size, then lowering it again or something. I'm not really sure. I knew how, before, but I forgot. Besides, cel-shading doesn't mean the black lines. Cel-shading means simple lighting, like in cartoons. People get them mistaken a lot.
