Jetpack Script

GigaGiga Join Date: 2003-01-22 Member: 12601Members
As most of u know pressing the jump button v v fast when u got a jetpack can keep u at a constant level above the ground.
It's v hard to do this AND shoot.
Just wondering how one goes about creating a bind like "mouse2" wait 0.5 "mouse2". You get what i mean?

If u do let me know how its done pllzzz

google for half life scripting. i'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

Don't you think that advice like that isn't very conducive to the long life of this mod? Attitudes like that can drive away people. Just explain your point of view. By the way for those that dont know, pressing alt+f4 will not give you godmode. It is a quick shortcut to close applications in Windows.

But it <b>will</b> put you into *a* god-mode. See? All those pesky enemies just got wiped away, and you're left with a nice, clean desktop.

Oh, and Giga? When 1.1 is out, tapping jump will not work any more, as the FPS will be unlinked from the fuel recharge rate. So you'll run out of gas, fall and die. It's not INTENDED that you be able to hover forever. Keep that in consideration, along with the fact that it is technically an exploit.

    Exactly.

Do we <b>want</b> people told how to exploit the problems with current versions? No.

The less knowledge of the exploits there is floating about, the better. I get kinda tired of having my hive HMG'ed just because someone has a higher wage packet (or worse, Daddy does...) so has a 1337 Ubermachine.

As long as they all get reported on here, and fixed, I'm happy.

I fully agree. If a human being cannot tap the key at a constant rate of once every half second, than a script to do it for you should not be allowed either. Not that it's fair in any case, it is still an exploit. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

Although the NS Dev Team are against using scripts for the game, many people do use them. And we cant stop them..However the script you were suggesting would be considered an 'exploit' and that i feel is a script everyone is against....

    Scipts in NS?

LOL I have been playing Half-life and half-life mods from ground zero (November 1998). Natural-selection is the first mod I have encountered that scripts seem almost pointless UNLESS you are trying to do something that wasn't intended. For example: In TFC I had a rocket jump script, but it wasn't because I didn't know how or wasn't supposed to be able to, it was just too hard to get it perfect with a 250 ping on my 'ol 56k modem <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> In CS having a buy script at the beginning of the round is almost a nessecity nowadays, since most admins give less than 3 seconds buying time before a match starts.

But NS is another ball of wax. Almost everything you need to do has already been provided with a hot key. All developing technology is sequencial, so you can't just "drop" a complete marine base down. Your resources always change so you don't want to bind dropping 5 turrets at once, which is kinda pointless because you could just hit the hotkey 5 times. I was gonna see what kinda scripts I would need for NS when I first started playing, but to my surprise, and serious props to the game designers, I found that scripts just didn't seem nessecary or even useful for anything but communications (sometimes I have to play without voice).

Well i think the following scripts exist-

Jetpack scripts (god ill drop that one!)
Primary gun quick swith to pistol
    Pistol rapid auto fire
Med spam scripts (each soldiers requests, bind presses space, med spams based on requests)
Alien jump / bite script (i know people that use this)

And I'm proud to be part of the N.S.P.A.S.A.E movement.

or NS Players Against Scripts And Exploits movement.

Yes it may sound ridiculous but its not. So lifes unfair and sometimes we have to deal with unfair advantages in the real world...

I just don't beleive that gaming applies to this. Everyone should have the same chance or ability to take on their rival. How can real gameplay exist without fairness. anyway yeah, I don't like scripters.

That's not a script. bind lastinv (i think) to a key, and when you push the key it'll switch back to the last weapon you had out.

Very handy for leap-bite and blink-swipe. Also, it's good as a marine to switch your weapon fast right before you run out of ammo.

    carnt be done with scripting

as u would need to create a looping script to keep executing the +jump command

    looping scripts = crash

u could make one which would do the same as holding the jump key down
  • Amped1Amped1 Join Date: 2003-02-08 Member: 13287Members
I'm not against scripts that don't do impossible stuff or exploit. An example of imposible stuff would be like a script that when you click a button, the Fade blinks then immediatley slashes. I use a Hotkey script for com mode, anything wrong with that?

most exploits u could exploit with out a script anyway

So can making scripts that give players an unfair advantage.

Scripts in and of themselves are not bad. It is what those scripts do that determines whether they are bad or not.

Most of the exploit scripts out there serve no other purpose besides compensating for someone's lack of playing skill; most notably the speed-linked stuff (eternal jetpacks, speed firing) tends to be the most unbalancing given that a Marine can tear through a Carapace 3 skulk like butter, or just stay placed in the middle of a room, death-starring it until he gets taken out by Parasites or an early-game Lerk, which costs the Aliens big-time.

Torn between asking you to edit your prior post listing them (to keep the knowledge of what is possible to exploit as under-wraps as possible), or just leaving 'em there so people will know what's going on when they turn a corner and have a full clip of pistol (or half a clip of LMG) unloaded into them in under a second, popping 'em instantly.

Those two things are easily the parts ruining the most games recently, having ye olde uber-Marine walking the map, with no early-game Alien having even half a chance to bite them, even when they both turn the same corner at the same moment.

    (edited for added ambiguity)

Well being able to shoot 10 shots with the pistol with one click is pretty overpowered.

But I use scripts, I got my voicecomms binded, and some comm stuff. Do you consider this cheating?

Is the switching guns one considered an exploit? If so, I'll drop it, but I do like not having to click the mousse when I press one, two, three, or four

Just asking because I don't want to ever be considered an exploiter.

To the guy who asked if quick-switching weapons is ok...

Yes it is, it is a basic command bind that is included. it's just "lastinv" or "invlast" - one of the two. It's not a cheat, it's just something so that when you run out of one ammo/energy you can switch to something else. You still have to draw the weapon so it isn't instant. So it is an ok thing.
