Mines Have Lasers 50% Of The Time...

[]--------------------------------------
I see a lot of mines that when placed on the floor or ceiling don't have a red laser connected to em - I can understand that for when they're on the floor but when on the ceiling they don't act as a mine as much as a trip mine, so they should have a laser.

Mines on the ground and ceiling are made into proxemity mines, and hence don't use lasers.

Mines that are placed on walls become trip mines.

Is this a feature or a "feature" ?

Kinda useless since most aliens don't climb on the ceiling...

mines on the bottom:
Advantage: most time enemies are on the bottom
Disatantage: for Skulks easy to run around, they make soise them narines trip over.
Mines on Wall:
Advantage: larger field of protection
Disatvantage: that mines can be "defused" with "parasite". - Long red lines make NO sense.
Mines on the top:
Disatvantage: Missing feature.

You can defuse mines with parasite? Or do mines have health and you can kill them after awhile?

You can turn off the red laser on the mines by pressing your use key on the ones you placed.

not sure about the parasite one

That cant be true......

And yeah parasiting them works. But it takes awhile because they do have health, i think.

I've tried using them and it never turned off the laser.

1) mines placed on a horizontal surface will not leave lasers, and will act as contact mines. placing on floor *and* ceiling prevents skulks from bypassing mines by wallclimbing. Try placing them around the base of your resource towers to take out unwary skulks.

2) mines placed on any other surface will emit a laser trip wire. These are better used to deter aliens, rather than kill (though if an alien jumps through, it will of course kill them). Use mines in this capacity to block access to areas - for instance, vents.

3) +using a mine will not turn the laser on/off.

Does anyone know the damage area for the mines?

Sometimes I would like to plant mines on the floor so that they are close to each other but not close enough to set off a chain reaction.

i saw someone do something weird with mines on bast. he put mines on the wall at the bottom of the big lift shaft at marine spawn and then when the lift moved it scraped the mines up with it so all the mines ended up at the top of the shaft but the beams were pointing down in all these weird directions and going through walls.

Maybe it was a server plugin. Which server was it on?

I really hope that you were trying for an 'ironic joke', Digital. Really.. really I do. Mostly as mining the TOP of vents is twice as effective as mining the bottom, as Aliens usually are watching the floor, but will still set off the top ones.

Contact-mining the TOP of a door is one of the most effective Skulk-killers, when used in conjunction with a single trip-laser across the middle... They see it, see the landmines, but don't think to check the TOP for mines, and go BOOM. Alternately, Marines who DON'T mine the top of their doors get their faces eaten by me, when I scoot past the four tripmines and three contact-mines on the floor by simply ceiling-walking past them.

What about parasite? I'm pretty sure that only acid rockets can take out mines...
