I've played some 10 games in a row now ( both marine and kharaa )... and the marine won every game.. totally raped actually.
tactics marines used:
Moved in large groups and camped in corners/end of long hallways. Secured about 2 hives and their base with plenty of turrets. Kharaa had most res nodes but the marines just saved for JP\HA / HMG.
Very early rush near the hive and and build a tf, a few turrets and a siege. Secured it by camping in corners/end of long hallways. ( The aliens didn't have anything that could shoot back but the gorg. )
One time the aliens actually got 2 hives, somehow, nobody got *54* res thought since it was allmost immedialty destroyed by JP/HMG.

If they are activley expanding they arent defending spawn.. 3 skulks in span = dead OBS and dead INF, not to mention the fact that the proto lab is easy to kill with 2-3 skulks
It actually seems like the fade is more of a "luxury" / "ownage'" unit on pub servers. (allthough it really isn't that hard to kill with some teamwork and especially with JP/HMG ).
The real battle is between skulks and marines with lmg. The problem here is that "more players"=good for the marines, "better players"=good for marines. You can only so good at ducking bullets, and tactics, and ambush etc.. but u can get super 1337 at using the lmg ( especially with its no-recoil and high accuracy ).

This discussion is pointless; stay off the servers that have over 18 players and you'll have a fine experience. I've never encountered something like this on 16 player servers unless the aliens absolutely suck, and I've been playing nonstop since day one.
your team LET them take RTs to get the RPs?
your team LET them have the RPs for the research...?
your team LET them have the RPs for the jetpack/HMGs?
your team LET them build the siege mini base near your hive?
oh... are they using teamwork? god forbid... you know your team can do the same and stomp the marines...
Actaully the number of players in the game probably is the most influential factor of the games these days. If the marines have an experienced commander that knows what to do (but they don't have too be great) and the teams are about 10 people the game is VERY slanted in favor of the marines.
At 12+ the only way the Karhaa can hope to win (which is possible, but extremely, EXTREMELY diffacult) is if the commander makes some pretty dramatic mistakes, and the aliens are mostly stand up players.
That is why many servers seem like they favor one race or another, because 16 player servers which usually have 7 player teams give the aliens a small advantage generally. Otherwise the blance is usaully good as long as the skulks resort to swarm/pack tactics and there is a lot of lag.
So, on an end note I want to say this in summary:
The aliens have advantages for good reasons: Speed, power
The marines have advantages for good reasons: Team work, good commander
The marines have advantages for bad reasons: Turrets (Turret Spam)
The aliens have disadvantages for bad reasons: Resources, slow resource chamber building rate.
so.... i guess it is tied to number of players now isnt it.
So if the marines won everytime that means that they knew what they were doing and the aliens weren't fast enough in getting up Hives/chambers.
If the alien team is organized and know what there doing then you can totally own the marines. And the same goes with the other way.
Numbers don't really have anything to do with it I play at Mayberry's server and it's about 20 people most of the time (until lag shuts the server down)
Last night it was the other way around Aliens 0wned.

I didn't say anything like games are pre-determined by the number of players, but the fact of the matter is the more players, the better the odds sway in favor of the marines.
And with more players, factors like individual player skill are diluted by the sheer number of players. All you need in a 14+ marine team is a comm who knows to resource rush, and they have a huge advantage. Are they unbeatable? No, but definitly in a better position.
