Though the thing has been discussed before, and I personally don't give up unless we lose our hive as marines, or both hives are locked down by marines. Of course, being mainly a voogru player, it's not usually a problem (can't F4 after 5 mins)

The two hive lockdown scenario is probably one of the worst ways a game can go, marines sit on their thumbs teching up for 30 mins while aliens smash themselves in vain against 10+ turret farms. Other hated scenario is when marines hole up in one hive and just grenade spam the choke points for an hour until fades grow the balls necessary to just blink in and chop GL users up

no, the least fun strat is that ****, defend base with mines, grab 2 rts and fast tech rush to j.pack hmg....its just no fun cos a good j.packer with a good fps is nearly invincible.

exec_client "unbind F4". Sure, it can be re-bound. But it'd confuse the heck out of most quitters, who just wouldn't understand why hitting the button wouldn't let them quit to the RR.

It's a game, you can't force people to stay in. What's next? Chaining people to their seat when they play the game? Lethal injection if they get killed in-game?

F4 has valid applications. For instance, Marines with a "Two HIve Lockdown" just sitting around and teching and not going for the kill, or aliens waiting until they all can go Onos to wipe out the marines. I am not a plaything to be toyed with at you're leisure. Let's end this game and play another, hopefully with better matched teams.

Even if you unbind F4, I'm sure you can use the in-game pop up menu to get back to the RR.

But yes, I agree.. don't mess with a user's bindings, especially when the game was designed to have F4 bound to the RR.

I wouldn't F4 in the above situation as it would all be over in an instant. I also enjoy the hidden CC game at the end, when the comm has spammed a cc to the furthest living marine and the Kharaa play hide and seek. I do F4 though if as an alien the marines have 2 hives and research through the whole tech tree. It has been mentioned that the Kharaa attack the base even after 2 hives are down, yet marines sometimes want 2 hives, HA, HMGs, JPs full Lvl 3 everything and 20,000 turrets before they finish us off. In this case I F4 as the only sensible option after a reasonable time period.

I have twice (but only twice) been part of a marine comeback after the aliens had 3 hives. I have also seen aliens come back from games when the marines owned 2 hive locations. The sad part of F4 is that you deny the possibility of such comebacks ever happening.

Maybe I'm an optimist - but I like to keep fighting until the end. Besides, in a game when the marines get owned, killing an ONOS before the bitter end gives a little satisfaction, doesn't it?

I too try to maintain an optimistic view down to the final frag; however, typically the same factors that contribute to getting into an appearent no win situation also rule out a comeback, more often than not.

AS I once said, f4 takes all the fun out of losing. Everone has already given up so several JPers go off to play hide & seek in the vents, the comm might try to hide a CC somewhere, and I get to attempt the elusive Onos knife kill. On the alien side its not quite as fun though.

I don't think anybody should f4, ever, not just for the above reason but also because the opposing team has earned the right to rush you with 10 Onos or tech up all the way.

    Just my $0.02
