Be nice. :o
I've just started into the world of modelling. Here's the first I've done, took me about 50 minutes from start to finish.
I can't see the model without textures. It's like looking at a white silhouette. Looks promising, but I recommend that one of the magazines is loaded in a bullpup fashion (into the butt of the gun) to give it a more OICW-like feel. So you could be a great modeller that I can't see the work of, or it could be a total pile of crap. Put some textures on and I'll judge the model by itself, not counting the texure. Also, the place you got it is incredibly ugly. You can't have curves and rusty, worn metal in the same place! Oh well... I might D/L it as a HMG with black arms (see Daemon Elite pack)...
looks very nice, great for a first time
Just make sure you keep everything in proportion
I'd hate to see a good model like that start to go to waste.
Great start, mate. One question.. did you simply extrude the faces of the reciever to create the magazine, or create it separately? The angle you took the pic at, it's hard to tell. Kickin' for a first try, though. Optimize it a bit, and get a good skin on it, and we've got an HMG replacement The reload anims would fit, too. Probably could fit popping both magazines out and in in the space of the current HMGs anims.
Don't go showing off the smoothed version, show the poly, and wireframe version, thats the only way to sucessfully tell if amodel is any good, and usable. Sadly, most models aren't.
Still, for a first model I think it's pretty good. I can work on optimization and other things as I get better. ;D Not really planning to release this one, just looking for input. I mean, I always can if you want, but I doubt you'd want me to.
I slapped the skin on it. I didn't even know how up until 10 minutes ago, just kind of taught myself.
It needs some work, better positioning and I'll need to edit it a bit to fit to some of my adjustments from the original model.. But hey, it's my first! And my first texture too.
For a first model, I'd say that's bloody brilliant. Looks very nice.
Keep up the good work.
well **** me senseless, i've been lurking these forums since ns came out, and for the life of me i've yet too see a model better than this, sure the stock needs work and the magazine and stuff needs to be fixed up so its seperate. but **** its a nice idea!
thats bloody amazing, doesnt look anywhere near a first attempt at all, looks like you were born to modelling ... please you may have my kids... if i had any
so is people that are willing to help you learn all those things....
iv'e got 2D animation down, but am trying to learn how to skin FIRST... then i'ma lern how to animate, and so far, not alot of people have helped me along with the skinning....
If this is your first model I wonder how will be one in three years
It's looking really good, I hate the skin, but the rest is ok.
i'm not a fan of the "multi plate" metal... even if they had to use more than one plate of metal, we have the technology today to smothe out the joints, to make it look like one full plate... (the main reason why i hate the "regal cinemas" intro movie)
but other than that, a few color tweaks, animations and a little clean up... and your in business.....

If you want to be any good, you have to work for it. You can't learn something from a tutorial, or a book, or even another person. It's all about experimentation.. That's how I learned what I have so far with modelling.
If you talk to some of the best modellers out there for games, modders and professional ones, they'll all tell you they taught themselves.
It's just a much quicker method of learning. It tends to stick after you spend 3 hours trying frustratedly to get it to work. ;D
And thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback, I really appreciate it.
About an hour ago I did a small test, just trying to see how a lower poly model would look if I relied on the texture for most of the details.. It actually turned out pretty well, too. There's noticeable problems in the skin, but it's just a test and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. If I was going to actually do something with the model I'd polish the skin up, but as a test I'm content to leave it how it is. Note: I only spent about 15 minutes on the model itself, and it was meant to look less detailed (ugly. ).. So don't make fun of it.

Eh? I don't know what you're talking about..
Lol, yeah. Had a bit of a problem, but the lovely Fam corrected it.

if you want to let us know how to actually get it textured, i might have more models out....
thats the only way to sucessfully tell if amodel is any good, and usable.
Sadly, most models aren't.
Runs in at about 1700 polys currently.

Just a comparison of my model to the concept art..
I think I did a fairly good job, needs some work in areas though
And now I'm off to school.

You missed something..
How does it look? I think it's pretty good for a 40 minute job (Extra time spent cleaning it up and improving it a bit.)
