<div class="IPBDescription">or sinking without a trace.</div> I don't know if this is a map problem a mod problem or if it can be fixed but seeing as it may well have cost my team the game earlier today I thought I'd see if anything could be done.
We all know that if you place a structure in a vent, or on certain area's of map they can sink without a trace. This is quite often a pain in the ****. If the try to build in vents you accept this risk, but when a turret disapears next to the Res point in Eclipse base it can get you riled. Your placing these turrets to defend base, they cost 19res each and if one sinks you can't afford to replace it.
We I had the worst possible thing happen today when I commed Bast. It was a small game (6v6) on Roob's server and we were trying to hold engine room. I had two great marines, some ok ones and a n00b. We couldn't hold the aliens in a straight firefight but their agressive nature lead me to believe they had left their hive weakly defended and they probably only had 1 gorge building the second all alone. So how do you quickly and effeicently send 1 marine to take down a hive? Jetpac of course and it just so happened I had two competant marines able to do the job. Rather than getting a extra two turrets or second level armour upgrade I chose to invest our res in a Prototype lab. The aliens were eating res nodes as fast as we set them up so cash was tight. I placed the prototype lab next to the comm chair so I could hop out, build it while the marines continued to fight for engine room and jump back in the cc before I was missed.
I and two marines watched in horror as our 45 res points sank through the floor of the command are into the corridor below, and then through that floor and out of sight...
By the time we had got another 45res saved we were already in big trouble. Maybe we would have lost anyway, but this just plain sucks and it happens all too often.
So can a mod be created to return the res from structures that sink out of the map? Perhaps if a structure passes a certain co-ordinate it could be automatically removed and res returned to the com/alien hoard?
Is it a problem with the maps? The structures? The mod?
Does anyone have any answers?
btw. Please don't tell me to learn areas where structures sink and then not to build on them. I know most of the area's to avoid but this really isn't a solution.

You make it seem so easy.

I've got absolutely no idea how the plugin stuff works but I'd imagine this would be much easier to fix in the main code, and on top of that, a simple fix. But, take this as talking out of my **** or wishful thinking, whichever you'd like <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Its psuedo code is a good way of checking it. now......how you would actually do such a thing? beats me as i am just now starting MM programing (mainly because NS doesn't like AMX very much)

seems easy enough except for knowing how much money to refund.
PS sorry to hear a bad game happened on my loveleh, sexeh server eagle <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
It's just a shame about that things went pear shaped because of us loosing 45res on a sinking structure. tbh we probably would have lost anyway (I've had a loosing streak in comm since 1.04, I can only seem to get it together 1in3 games) this just made it more definate.
<b>Marine Tagging</b>
Too often it's difficult to see who on your team can do thier job and who is a phyco with no teamplay skills who'll grab the hmg and heavy armour and run off alone to get killed, or hide in a corner in case they get kiled until the end of the game and then claim they're the best player 'cos everyone else died!
I don't want to discuss what makes these player do this, I want to discuss a mod to solve it. Give comm an option to bring up a menu to 'Reprimand' or 'Commendate' a player. Each comm can place a Rep and/or C as once per game per player the server records this. Each Rep give -1 teampoint, each C gives +1. Until stars/blackmarks are shown there should be no indication as to how many teampoints a player has.
When a player has +x teampoints they get a star next to their name in the scorechart, when the player gets -x teampoints they get a black mark. By setting it so that comm's can only vote once per game on each player unfair comm's who might hand out blackmarks for the sake of it should be able to make little difference. When a C or Rep is given it should be diplayed to the player that he/she has recieved the Reprimand or Commendation. That way they can if inclined ask what they did wrong.
This rewards teamwork with a little star, and the comm knows who to trust. Regulars will keep returning to the server, perhaps to earn more stars for 2x or 3x as many commendations, or perhaps just because they know they are appreciated. Trouble makers won't come back because the comm will avoid giving them the heavy equipment until they have shown they can be trusted.
If a blackmarked player gets into the comm chair other players can eject him before any permenant damage is done.
So can any one do this? I'd write it myself except I haven't a clue where to begin!
