<div class="IPBDescription">Something I've been musing over...</div> I've been playing X-Com: UFO Defense / Enemy Unknown recently, and I think it would be awesome if someone made / is willing to 'help' me make the Rifle, Pistol, and AutoCannon.

I'll try to find some pics/info on them, for anyone who hasn't played/heard of X-Com.

Oh.. if you'd like to 'help' me 'acquire' a 'repaired' version of my preferred modelling software (MS3D) I'd like a PM, tyvm. Damn registration bugs.

    looks good to me, but since i can't figure out how to put textures on models, assign bones, or any of that... i can't do it...

    There are tons of old UFO Defence sites with pictures on them, I'm almost sure of it.

    That rifle is the same old rifle that appeared in enemy unkown/ufo defense. The pistol is something new. There are also laser rifles and laser pistols, but those were kinda ugly. Gauss rifles and harpoon launchers were ugly too. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'll give it a swing, but being largly unknown in the whole modelling community is probably a good indication of my current ability.     Something's always better than nothing. At least you're willing to try, and in my book, that's all that counts.

    I actually like this pistol better than the original UFO pistol. The Laser and Plasma rifles were probably the coolest looking weapons in the game, though...Heavy Plasma would own for the HMG.. And from TFTD, let me try and find some pics of the Gauss Pistol/Rifle.

    OOH! Idea. Going to go look for some Small Launcher(Stun Bomb thingy..) or Blaster Launcher pics for the GL...

    I never imagined the rifle being so round. I think the front part should be a rectangular prism with rounded corners, not a cylinder.

    mmmm... looks low detailed... still working on it and will be amazing, i still working on the pistol, but dont want to take screens because is not finished yet, but tomorrow will post one or two screens.....

    I'd model it, but I really, really don't like the rifle they have there. It's nothing like the old one from X-Com. Older was much thinner, longer and didn't have a huge, ugly, circular barrel.

    Here's an example of my modelling skills. They're not great, but they're shaping up. You find me some decent artwork for the old rifle and I'll model it. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Actually, it's already pretty up there in the polycount because of the round barrel. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I count 766, and half of that is in the barrel. I also just did a mirror and slapped two pieces together, so I could optimize down the middle and shave off about 200 polys.
    And hey, don't be afraid to post works in progress. From my point of view, this is just trial and error so I probably won't release it on grand scale. It's why you don't see a mwip thread and probably never will. Assuming it gets finished, heh.

    Worked on it a little more. Took some liberties and changed the barrel to fit people's wishes a little more. It has a few problems still that need to be worked out. What do you think, zero?

    im sory, but that rifle is not pretty, the pistol is a bit better, but...man not trying to be rude but that looks like something i made as a kid with some duct tape pvc pipe and left over peices from busted guns i had laying around

    Rifles aren't supposed to be pretty. If the design works, if it does what it's supposed to, that's good enough for me.     What I notice, though, Jamil, is that the stock on your rifle is too short and fat. I look at the pic I found on the first page again, and it looks pretty long, and much thinner. Don't get me wrong, it's a great first try, and I think you've got the barrel and most of the front part down pretty well.

    I'm working on getting 3DSM 4 to work, as 5 doesn't like me very much. When/if I get it running, I'll try my hand at it.

    It would be nice if you could find someone to texture this thing. I doubt it has to be very good. As long as you have the inkling to skin something and love x-com, you could skin my monstrosity. I optimised it really low on the polys using the gmax optimize tool. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    It's at like 300-something now from 800-something <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    By the way, I gave texturing a try. But there's just too much overhead trying to figure out all the graphics design programs. I can picture what it should look like in my head, but trying to make something that looks like that short of drawing pixel by pixel is just too complex.

    This is my first version of the rifle. Call it a beta...or maybe alpha is more suitable.

    If you want it zero, you're going to have to PM me some way to send it to you. I'm not making a public release, because I used the animations from the pulse rifle when I compiled without permission.

    I know the texture sucks, but that's the full extent of my abilities.

    i've got the same problem, but mines a little diff, it's an import from a Q3 file...it's just too big for MS3D to handle showing it all.... (i think)

    Yes, I weeded out most of the inverted faces. I'm aware of some I kept in, because you can't really see them and I plan on redesigning that section of the gun.
