I've been playing on a LAN since ns came out and generally we have found that onos was a game ender.....not anymore....
Basically mines are the onos killing ****. Everyone assumed they were useless and they are if you just lay them about everywhere. What happens if you lay them in a cluster of five or more proximitys though....instant onos slaying.
The main thing is you have to HIDE your cluster mines. If an onos sees them he wont run over them. Also if fades see it they will prob detonate it and kill you in the process.
Good places to hide cluster mines are on the steps of staircases where a fast moving onos wont see em, just on the inside of doorways and corridor corners, etc.
It takes great skill to pull it off but I personally have killed one onos, 2 fades and a skulk wiht ONE pack of mines...they all ran over it and turned to bolognaise

this is new....ive searched the forums for ages and its not there...perhaps you should do one of the following things:
1) learn to read
2) learn
3) stop flaming because of your insecurity complexes in rl
4) read
I have played on servers with people who really know what they are doing and i am telling you if you KNOW HOW TO HIDE MINES which is a rare skill indeed then you can get literally evey onos that attacks a base with cheap mines....ive defended a base from 5 onos on my own....the rest of my team grabed a hive and we eventually won....The fades tried covering the area with bile but i hid the mines in places where the bile couldnt take out the mines
incase you dont know THIS is what i am telling you....you can pile mines up on the same space it takes to put 1 mine...it looks like one mine - only difference it has 5 times the firepower

This is NOT a new tactic. This has already been discussed to death on countless other threads.
Christ, there's been entire threads on stacking mines under a Hive just to kill it. You really honestly telling me you used the search function and came up with nothing?

Yes it's been discussed before. So has everything else. So why'd dont we all just quit the forums? (because hey, its all been discussed before right?)
new people join everyday, and they have to learn the game. in so they might post posts like this, wherer vets may think "repost" or "use search", but for new people, its valuable information.
if you really want to stop this you should have a "common tactics" sticky.
Also, if you are being attacked by Onos, the marine priority should be to kill a hive as soon as possible. Sneaking around the map hiding minepacks is only delaying the inevitable. If you can manage to kill a hive, the Onos problem will quickly disappear.
A better strategy is to relocate the marine base to a hive, or maintain a stranglehold on a hive location, thus preventing Onos at all. The best Onos defence is no Onos.
No, you won't win the game just by sitting in a mined base, but I'm sure you could use the tactic in the field and while employing a potential winning strategy.
Got a classy fade kill by sticking 5 trip mines to a random door in the middle of the map. They all detonated when it opend <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
