=P
I played a game today which was kinda weird. We (marine) had most res in the map except 2 so the res were pouring in. And we also had a mined base with prox mines so it was fairly secured. The comm was handing out HA/Hmg when the first fade appeared, now the fun starts, as confident as we were with our new toys we began to march toward one of their hive when we suddenly hear the comm scream WTF! We return to base and see that everythign is down except the armory, how did this happen? Remember the mines? Fade acidrocket BOOM! One of the most hilarious game i've played... Yah and we lost

Mines Rule as long as there are no fades.
When there are Fades mines just rule with jetpackers in vents.
I always see it funny when we notice aliens have two hives and people still ask for mines. They can be placed in dark areas and high-alien-traffic corners throughout the map to blow up the occational skulk passing by, even after the second hive is up. But once those fades are nearby, I agree that mines have little use.
As for placing a billion mines in base, that is never really a good idea. A few well placed mines on the entrances and one or two around the infantry portals and phase are all that should be placed. More is just a waste of money since a marine can usually finish off any skulks that get through.
And remember, mines placed on walls can be blown up by a skulk shooting a parasite through the beam.
Several games aliens have few fades before we manage to take down one of their hives (so they only have one hive left). Then those fades attacks in to our base and takes it down and starts to laugh at us. We rush their last hive and destroy it before fades gets there.....and then that countdown start
I've tried this several times and have yet to get it to work. Oh, and by the way, I have pretty good aim
That said, I'm happy they haven't changed it. Nothing more satisying than getting a bucket full of kills because marines don't know marines are deadly to them too
If a skulk or other alien runs into a mine, it counts as a marine weapon, and thus with no Friendly Fire, the marines are not hurt at all by the explosion.
If a fade or a gorge (I think gorge, not sure) detonates the mine from a distance, the explosion counts as an alien attack, and thus marines are damaged by it.
If I'm wrong, correct me, but this is what I've noticed (from both sides of the fence).
