Hotgroups, ammo request
Here's some more info on NS v1.1, this is about some changes to the commander mode interface.
You'll notice that there needs to be some work done on the action buttons in the lower right , but this will give you an idea of how it's going to work.
NS v1.1 has full hotgroup support. You can create a hotgroup by holding your duck key and pressing 1-5. When a hotgroup is created, it draws an icon showing what's in the hotgroup along the upper edge. This picture shows 5 hotgroups, so you can see hotgroup 1 is a command station, 2 is an infantry portal, 3 is an armory, and 4 and 5 are soldiers. I'm going to draw the number of units in the selection if it's greater then 1 as well. Pressing 1-5 or clicking any of the icons will select it. Doing so again will zoom the camera to the group and track it as well. I will also add a button up top that selects all soldiers on your team.
When a hotgroup is under attack, the hotgroup will blink red. I will probably also show the selected units' health somewhere on the UI, so you can check the health of an off-screen unit easily without scrolling over to it. Whenever a hotgroup of soldiers is created, the commander hears "Squad 1" or "Squad 2". The soldiers on the ground also hear the commander say "You are squad 1" or "You are squad 2". On the soldier HUD, it will draw "Squad X" so the commander can easily give verbal orders to squad and you know what to do.
I've also added a queued request system, so the commander can easily track pending orders, ammo requests and health requests. This may look familiar if you've seen Warcraft III or Age of Mythology (they use this system for idle peons).
When a soldier requests an order, ammo or health, the commander will see the ammo icon appear in the lower left. It will also show you how many requests there are, by drawing a number in the lower-right corner of this icon. This picture shows one ammo request, but would draw a 3 on the ammo icon if there were three pending requests. Clicking this icon will take you right to the player that requested it, and remove their request from the list (it will also be bindable in the UI). The request is removed immediately because it's up to the commander to decide whether to actually give the order, health or ammo.

something quick I thought of though
if you laso a few marines and get an IP also, we might want a way to take them out of the group (like cntrl click in other RTS)
EDIT: anyone else not recognize that map??
EDIT2: if a marine in a group dies, is he still attached to the group upon respawning?
I can't wait
I want 1.1 !

A set group has two Marines, one is on one side of a given map, and one is on the other. If the commander sets it to "track" them, will the camera go to the median between the two Marines, will it follow the first in the group, or will it do something different? Because if the Marines in a given group are split up, you obviously would not want the camera to snap to a location that has no Marines at all.
Question though. With the typical top down strategy games you can click one unit, hold down shift and click another unit to select them both. Will something similiar be implemented into NS?
I cant tell you how many times I would love to select 2 or more marines without having to draw a box over them...
NS v1.1 is going to kick some more derrier that it will be sore and pink!
Amazing...
to each his own.
...that's beautiful man...

I think you have to have had sex before you can place such an opinion.
One thing - could you make it so the marine's names always appear without waving at them? As possibly the worst comm ever, this is one of my biggest difficulties .
Yes, please allow the comm to see all marine names permanently on the map. This alone would mean more to me than everything you've already described.
Thank you for your time.
