My name's NS, and I will be your server

Like to start off with some drinks?
Here's something every NS fan can do to help themselves out when Natural Selection Version 1.0 hits the mirrors: use this thread to tell the team about your favorite HL servers and server organizations. We are looking to find servers all over the world, so you non-Americans out there will get extra benefit here.

Please just note the server(s) in question only if they have a website or email address for their operators. Don't just name some IP you get a good ping to. Examples would be something like HLA, GH, RedBeran, and other groups that provide a multi-server environment with good admins. Don't worry about cost or not, leave that up to us to explore. Also, try to stay on topic here - if it turns into a 'this server rocks - no it sucks' debate, I will just start deleting posts.

Thanks!

If i may make a preemptive suggestion, you might want to try http://www.recongamer.com/gameservers/

Right now they only support the more well-known mods, but they do support FireArms which could suggest there might be a chance of convincing them that allowing the rental of servers for NS would be worthwile.

I doubt that NS is gonna be a "fringe" mod when it's released, and if it does wind up being one, I doubt it'll be one for long. The standard that the team here is holding up to is so far beyond even what mods like CS and TFC were like in their betas that I doubt this mod will have even the least amount of trouble getting a huge following really fast. Plus it's really innovative. I'd venture a guess that finding servers won't be a problem even early in NS's life. I bet you guys'll have to fight the admins off with a stick. : )

the best way to promote it is to ask the big server providers in most of the country's to set up a server.
after that most small servers will follow.

    *Bump*

Any other people have favorite server farms they'd like to recommend? I'm head-down all this weekend on a big project to get NS as many servers lined up as possible.

Well, as i said before, my clan might able to set up a NS server as soon as it comes out. If my clan really likest he mod, it might be even 2 servers.

Also, a good provider is www.cs-stargate.com
They definetly support smaller mods, but they are more concentrated on CS as the name suggests. However, you should contact them, most likely they will let u guys have a server.

I guess you would already have thought of this but be sure to have a linux server at release as a lot of dedicated servers use it!
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Great pointers guys, keep 'em coming.

We are trying to have the Linux server ready at release with the Win32 server binaries. It might be slightly afterwords (though you can see from the latest mapping guideline updates that it's nea the forefront of Flay's thinking).
