Before i had a PII 400 with GeForce 256DDR and i hadn't any problem...

Now, in NS game (i haven't the problem with CS or DOD) i have some big lag when im near buildings.
My ping go to 300 at 1500/3000/4095 (very hard lag <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )
Specially, near Marines buildings. Sometimes near Aliens Building when there is a lot of buildings in the map.

I don't know what's do that ?

I tried to reinstall NS => nothing
to change rate, cl_cmrate, cl_updaterate => nothing

    Your PC is a beast, except for the modem and AOL!
    I imagine if you type net_graph 1 in the console you will see 100fps all the time, but when you go near structures you will see the line at the bottom turn red...

    I suspect that your new PC is able to generate far more detailed data reports to send back to the server and that it is able to send this data far more often. You tried changing your rate, cmrate and update rate without success but how low did you go?

    I have not played on a 56k modem but you can use task manager to survey you network usage whilst you play, try this. If you see over 80% useage during the laggy period then you have to reduce the ammount of data your pc is sending.

    Basically I believe your PC is outperforming your modem.

    THX for the answer,

    Actually, im with :

    cl_updaterate "22"
    cl_cmdrate "22"
    rate "4500.000000"

    what do you advise me ?

    I know, my pc roxx <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> , but i have'nt DSL in my little town <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> ...

    Where can i change the ammount of data my pc is sending ?

    PS: i wish you understand my english <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    well 4500 is 36,000bps, a 56k modem can theoretically download 56000bps but normaly gets 48000bps under favourable real use. Unfortunately you can only upload 33600bps maximum. Thats uncompressed but the data you send to the half-life server is already compressed so the modem can't save you much space there. I would try rate 3000 or even as low as 2000 as it really depends on your line quality. In ideal circumstances your modem can only handle rate 4200.

    BTW. Your English is excellent. It makes me ashamed that I can speak no other language.

    mm i have 56k to =D u have a good comp. but set ur rate to 3500 it will reduce some lagg and increase more fps.. and to decrease more lagg.. i suggest u not use aol =/ it runs in the backround causing lagg. i use msn but i connect to the internet using netpal. so msn doesnt run reducing my lagg

    No, i switch off MSN when i play...

    For AOL, it's the only illimited crime (set price?) for modem 56k in France...

    I will try to put rate to 3500 ...

    No lag with rate 2000 on english servers, but on french servers it's always laggy...

    If i change cmrate and updaterate, perhaps ... ? What can i put ? (actually im at 22)

    I cant remember those variables too clearly, but I am quite sure there is something in <a href='http://list.valvesoftware.com/' target='_blank'>http://list.valvesoftware.com/</a> (valve list archives) or on <a href='http://www.planethalf-life.com/half-life/guide/console/multiplay.shtm' target='_blank'>http://www.planethalf-life.com/half-life/g.../multiplay.shtm</a>

    In fact I just had a look and it recommends
    cl_cmdrate 30
    cl_updaterate 20
    cl_rate 9001.204 --- Set rate client sends data to server (bytes/sec). Try 1000-4000 for modem, 6000-9000 cable, up to 20000 if T1.
    ------------------------- Incorrect values can increase lag dramatically.

    So I would change cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate back to those values and then play with cl_rate a little more.
