try not to always do this...
Try not strafe back and forth between skulks and your teammates, unless your sure you can kill them. This leads to several outcomes -
1. Your a human shield and everyone's clip is emptied into your back, skulk has lots of time to bite marines due to reloading.
2. Because your strafing back and forth and usually towards your teammates, this essentially gives the skulk a moving form of cover as he moves into melee range.
This also applies to running in front of people.
An alternative tactic would be to strafe away from your team, exposing the skulk to fire from behind him as well, and bringing him further out of melee range of your teammates if you are killed.

Yes this happens to me alot my teamates zip into my line of fire ...I waste my bullets pumping some marines back full of lead
I like to use the "TORO!!" method by which you keep lmg fire on a skulk as he closes in (you standing still, give him a nice juicy target to go for, it generally makes them a little more single minded and they tend to run straighter when you arent moving), and then at the last second (skulk approx. 10 ingame ft away) hit a strafe key+forward, then jump, and sweep your mouse in the opposite direction from the strafe.
This moves you out of the skulks path (very quickly i might add, i've had this used against me and its hard to track the marine as he suddenly swings off to your side while in the air), and allows you to keep firing on the poor skulk as it passes. VERY effective.
