<div class="IPBDescription">Silence upgrade change</div> One of the most often requested changes to silence has been implemented for NS v1.1. When an alien has the silence ability, his <b>attacks and footsteps</b> are silenced too!
<b>Level 1:</b> Sounds are played at 50% volume
<b>Level 2:</b> Sounds are played at 25% volume
<b>Level 3:</b> Sounds aren't played. Total silence.
It's just plain eerie to rove around the level as a silenced skulk, not making a sound and gliding in and out of shadows, snacking on targets that are facing the other way...this works well for leap too ("Did you just see something?").
Note that if a skulk bites something, the "hit" sound is still played. This means a commander will hear munching on his resource towers when there's no one present, but he won't hear the chomping.
All of this is subject to change after playtesting of course.

Question : Will that include the whack sounds some species make just as they move about? Especially the Lerk, obviously (as it's are WELL noticeable, and it seems to make more), but also the Onos & Gorge.

As always, teaser info is much appreciated...may I make the guess that this week will be much like the "press week" in October '02 that got me and others so hyped up for the initial release of 1.0? Please don't feel rushed to release it. I think the number 1 most annoying thing as a gorge is when you're trying to build a nice neat, symetrical WoL and you get friggin skulks jumping in front of you that need healing. They could stand to the side and poke their head in slightly, that works. Or just wait for you to drop def chambers/turn around

Rest assured, the dev team has already taken this into account. 'Tis better to ask questions about how the teaser ideas will work than discuss their balance effects before they've even finished internal playtesting.

if youre going to do something with motion tracking, make a sensory upgrade weaken it, but dont negate it. but i'm sure you're smart enough to know that <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
To think I'm supporting taking them off MT "somehow", after I just got snuck up on in my game 4 times, when they were MAKING noise. THe idea of how powerful that would be got me wondering if anyone would even use anything else after that. Adreniline and Celerity sort of pale to not making an ounce of sound at all. The good news of course is some people would finally get into debates over which is truly more useful, Defense or Motion first. If cloak is changed back to 100 percent, it could get a turly balanced set of towers that people have to debat their team strategy over to use, instead of just D, M, and..possibly S.
Ah well.
Silence should be cool now. Usually I plump for one of the other two, but the idea of making no sound is cool.
By the way, these updates/snippets of info are cool. Thanks for letting us know.
I could not agree more. I have always found silence worthless becuase the majority of marine teams out there rush, or get MT very quickly - so why get silence?
