How Do I Run The Dedicated Server?

??????
I'm going to a huge LAN this weekend so I decided to download the dedicated server so we could play 1.04 in case no one else has it.
I got the server zip and the 1.04 patch zip, but I don't know what to do with them...
There's no server exe file, and the unzipping paths say \ns. So do I put them in the Half-Life directory? But if I do that, it will overwrite my NS Client files, since those are also under \ns.
Do I need to download the Half-Life dedicated server or something and unzip to THAT directory?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
(BTW I'm running Windows, not Linux, in case you didn't gather that from my Client comment.)

You sure you didn't d/l the Linux dedserver file?
*** BOOT! ***
so your dedicated server will run from c:\hlds
but if you want to play from your machine install 1.04 and run a listen server
I do intend to play on my machine at the same time as running the server. What's a listen server?
Ok.
But if I make the server there, won't it be 1.0, not 1.04, since it's not being run by hlds?

As long as you updated the server patch in your game directory(the one you play from) then it should be 1.04.
I would suggest, if you guys have a spare, and decent computer (maybe 1GHz+), that you set up a dedicated server from that machine. Then all of you connect to that. This way, if the game gets intense(which it is gaurenteed to get!!), your not slowing it down by "being the server" and playing on it as well. If you don't have this option, fine, but it would be wise.
If you do the seperate machine option... I suggest:
1) Get a fresh, latest version HLDS
2) Get the NS dedicated server from www.natural-selection.org
----> This is all the game files for NS, to go in say "c:\HLDS\NS"
3) Get the 1.04 patch and install in "c:\HLDS\NS" <---whatever dir you picked
4) Edit server.cfg to change server options...(should be some help comments in there---everything should be setup quite nicely by default). NOTE: sv_lan 1 // for lan play (no internet users)
5) Run the server and hope for the best!
----> done by running HLDS.exe with following properties (create a new shortcut to HLDS.exe):
a) hlds.exe -game ns +map map_name -maxplayers # -port 27015
----> map_name=put name of map you want to start server on (ex. ns_caged). #=number of players obviously, I'm assuming you'll have no more than 10. (things get pretty laggy on 16+ servers without proper CPU POWER).
b) If you need an example of what the above should look like in the shortcut, right-click and select properties on your "Launch Natural Selection" shortcut.)
Hope this helps, and have fun!
