<div class="IPBDescription">Create a theme park out of the aliens</div> I believe using mines at the aliens initial hive can be very useful. With a hidden armory near enemy base you can create a alien exhibit at the beginnnig of the game.
Place armory in stealth location with mines around it. Send marines to all of the Hive exits and mine it up well. As aliens die at other parts of the map they respawn and get "collected" in your live exhibit case. If they rush out most die, just replace mines and kill those who escape. The deeper the mine field the less get out. Very funny to watch.
Have other marines securing other hives/ nodes as this is happening. Devote 2 marines to get new locations. All others become "zoo keepers".
Its fun.

Mining the hive exits is a intresting strategy though, ive tried it a couple times, it was great to just be wondering around the map and periodicaly seeing myself getting mine kills.
in fact, I think i'd be able to get out of any mined up hive situation easially ...
OPTION A) Find a vent that's free...go that way
OPTION B) use some TEAMWORK ... DONT go running through the mines...wait until theres 3/4 of you ... one goes and kamikazies out the mines, the rest take out hte marine when hes going to place more.
I would like to give that try sometime.
exactly. Read "Game of Economy" thread further down in forum. Mine rush is huge advantage in early game.

PG good idea but it is too weak now. It goes down too easy. Mined armoury tougher and you can drop a welder by it if it needs repair. Your offense doesn't go to hell when the pub marines don't phase through when they are suppose to. Also, alot of marines know how to hump armory.

your right you can't seal off hive completely sometimes, but if the skulks have to go all the way around then thus they are wasting time. Meanwhile when they finally arrive on the other side of the mines by going all the way around the marines can simply walk through the mine field to the hive and kill it and face few or no skulks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. One skulk at a time would not knock out all the mines. You have to make the mine field deep enough to survive those attempts and replenish mines when they are used. Plus Marines can shoot at them from behind the mine field, ala fish in a barrel.
I think the first time I saw it was in a scrim with sYn, but it's probably been around before that. (That one still hurts.)
HAM also managed to pull it off in a pub while I was there, but with a twist of shotgun. (They tried it a second time and it failed. They weren't able to get all the way into the hive and tried what you're mentioning: mining outside. The aliens were able to fight them off long enough to get a second hive up. Nice gorgework there. [ns_caged]).
But still, if your marines are good enough to spawn camp they're good enough to build an armory right inside the hive and mine the respawn points to get those skulks before they can react.
see if you mine the heck otuta your base they will kno where the mines are and avod them , so carry mines with you into battle, dropping them everywhere else on the map, it detracts from alien skill levels when they are busy getting furious or watching out for mines all over the map

Good idea EXEPT:
1.) Never leave the gorge out. If you know hes out find him and kill him before you are up to your neck in fades.
2.) Always keep a pair of marines(LMG/Pistol{LA}, or Shotgun/welder{HA}) gaurding the entrance incase they try to blow said mines.
3.) Like I said, a lerk can easily take out a full marine emplacment, so mine the floor also. This will also help you against fast skulks who dodge exlposions.
4.) TURRETS! Put a turret farm around the corver from the mine field, so that if they do manage to get through, it will slow them down and give you time to react. A wall of five or six should be plenty for a large game hive.
