IMO, pulsing lights that go from pitch black to bright colors just hurt peoples eyes. But, you could maybe have 2 lights, one that stayed constant, and one that pulsed a little bit (so the room would still have ok lighting, but it would also pulse a little bit). If you made them each emit about half the light that one of those lights emits, then it should even out, right?
I absolutely love the hive room. The aliens don't actually drop down from the hive in-game, but I think that's the story. So, if you had a hive 5 stories up, and spawns at the bottom, it wouldn't actually hurt the aliens from the fall or anything, but it just wouldn't be believable. You may also want to try putting in a hive model in that room, just so you can see the sheer size of it (its very large, much larger than the box in WC)
Looks great, the readyroom is a bit too simple for my tastes (although, just because you can get away with mad brushwork in your readyroom doesn't mean you *should*, right? =)), but the tower is spectacular. The shadows are very moody and nice, and I love the architecture. You make me mildly jealous
Agreed. I tried making a map in HL with one region in which all the lights were given the custom appearance of a candle. The result was an effect that would've made me want to kill the mapper had it not been myself
Maybe it's just my computer here at work, but those seem a little on the extremely dark side. I'm not one to complain about darkness (it's my favorite type of scene in a map), but they look like a bit of lighting here and there couldn't hurt.
