<div class="IPBDescription">keyboard and mouse occasionally lock up</div>Greetings, all
Sometimes my mouse and keyboard will lock up for a few seconds. For instance, if I'm strafing left and firing, I will continue strafing left and firing for a second or two, regardless of what I do with my mouse or keyboard. Then it goes back to normal, without any apparent after-effects.
I've only ever noticed it in the heat of battle, although it might just be that I haven't noticed when it's happened at other times.
The problem doesn't occur in Windows, or any other program as far as I can tell, and I haven't noticed it in any other Halflife mods (though again, this doesn't mean it doesn't happen)
System Specs:
Athlon 800 @ 800MHz
Gerforce 256 DDR
SoundBlaster Live
640MB SDRAM
Windows XP
DirectX 8.1
Options:
1152x864 OpenGL
EAX disabled
A3D disabled
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

mostly with my mouse tho, but it's wicked annoying, especially as commander.
if anyone knows why this is happening, please tell me and how i can fix it.
Someone else was having a problem similar to this, but i can't find that thread, so i'll repost my solution:
Disable print spooling.
(It works for me at least) It run as the spoolsrv.exe process i think.
Etc. etc.

or,
file indexing, make sure fastfind wasn't installed and disable the virtually useless XP file indexing service.
or,
virus scanning...
or,
Drive access. Do you have the right and latest mobo ide drivers? Especially important on via chipsets and the windows defaults can be a bit lame on perfomance. Does your drive light flash during these hang-ups?
or,
CPU. Run task manager and show the cpu graph on slow refresh, stretch it accross the width of the screen and play until you get a few hangups then take a look and see if cpu spiked to 100% during the hangs.
I always figured my craptastic pc just couldn't handle it.
...
haven't seen it happening in a while though, everything seems to be a whole f***ing lot more stable after updating my soundcard and chipset drivers.
(system specs: see Whatsit's, virtually identical)
I have tried everything.... changing from USB to PS2 mouse / mouse frequency changes, turned off excess services like print spooling, toggled mouse filtering and windows smoothing.... nothing helps. WHATS THE DEAL GUYS?<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->?
DID ANYONE PREVIOUSLY SOLVE THIS ISSUE?? IF SO HOW"???
I CAN'T PLAY AND ITS KILLING ME!!!!!
Anyway, I've narrowed it down to either drive access or CPU usage. Print spooling isn't the issue. Internet connection speed isn't the issue. I still have indexing service turned on (just found out about that, it'll be the first thing to go if I get the problem again)
If that fails, I'll be forced to upgrade to DirectX 9.0
Then it'll be new IDE drivers
Then a sacrificial lamb
If you're having a problem... first, turn off file indexing. It really is useless.
Otherwise, I think I'm leaning towards drive access being the problem... so if you still have a problem, try shutting down anything running in the background that accesses the hard drive for any length of time. If that doesn't work, try shutting down anything running in the background at all.
Oh, and thanks to everyone who offered help <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
*sigh* I'm guessing 24 hours before I get the exact same problem again <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Things I have done:
Switched to PS2 mouse
updated mouse drivers
modified mouse refresh rates
toggled MS smoothing AND m_filter
turned off excess system resource users
modified and tried several game network settings (rate, cl_update, cl_cmdrate, fps_max)
Observed no lag during freezeup in netgrapgh
the list grows....
I hate being right...
If you have any Microsoft Intellitype Software/Drivers for one of those fancy keyboards, uninstall it all. That fixed it for me.
Good luck.
BTW WTH is the point of having a tech support forum if the creators of the game don't assist you in tech support?
Looks like upgrading my Direct X don't work for me... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

OK I left this out because I was not sure if it really was the solution or not ... but I downgraded my Nvidia driver from the latest greatest to like 40.71. That may be the key... try it out and see what it does. Please post back here what you find.
Just hope I didn't jinx it.... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

My mouse was named Logitech USB WheelMouse and the website had a few list of names of mice, but the link you have listed was the only mice that was similar to mine that was listed.
