Alien ranged weapons

I'd love to hear about 'em.
I remember someone mentioning that the aliens wouldn't be relying entirely on close combat, that they would in fact have some ranged weapons to use. We've heard so much about the Marines and the equipment they'll be using that I'd love to hear more about the aliens.

What kind of ranged weapons will they be utilizing? How can they go about getting them?

I don't know how much I can tell you about which weapons the aliens have. I'm sure that they'd be in the alien descriptions on rr.org (you may have to search the archives a bit if they aren't in the special features).

I do know that Flayra has mentioned in the past how aliens get their weapons. Basically, the weapons an alien has corresponds directly to the number of hives that are up. There's the base 0 hive weapons, then with each successive hive (they start with 1), extra weapons get added. But if they lose a hive, they go back to the weapons they had with one fewer hive. Is that clear? It's late.

That's cool, Greedo!

What I know:
Bob - bite, claws, self-destruct (3 hives required)
Pudgy - some sort of ranged spit, others?
Flyer - stink cloud, sniper-like ranged spine attack
Lvl 4 - claws, some sort of ranged attack
Lvl 5 - general mauling, trampling, etc. Yum.

I'm surely missing some.

yeah, that tentacle thingy over his shoulder is a spike launcher, last I heard. I also think the lvl 3 (flyer) can launch those spikes on the sides of his mouth.

It may be just me (or my obsession with Warhammer) but the aliens really remind me of tyrinids in Warhammer 40K they have some REALLY cool weapons too. Spore launchers are the coolest where they launch a little but (alien) and it floats around, until it either blows up (acid, smoke or blast) its incredibly cool. I hope they do that with NS but as of now readyroom says:
-The elite warrior, he bombards you with acidic sludge propelled from his shoulder pod
-The infiltrator, he can end his own life along with his nearby enemy's by exploding in a huge blast of acidic bile
-the flyer, ability to fire streams of hardened spikes from his face launchers give him a strafing weapon unmatched by other classes, also he has spore bombs
-the behemoth, has a roar that launches marines, his whip lines throw spikes and paralyze targets

I hope that helps, and thats not plagerizing! Anyway I just did all the research for you, save people time (good CubicVirtuoso)

HA! Good work Cubic, I was still a bit shady on the details myself, thanks for doing that research for us! I didn't know the lvl4 has a spine launcher!

It was mentioned that "Tiny" may be able to use his/her/its barbed tenticle thingies to whip out, snag a marine and pull the unfortunate soul onto tiny's horns.

I'll have to admit, of all the sources out there, Tyranids are IMO the biggest alien inspiration(but certaintly not a rip-off).
