Sweet Comeback

I think... maybe you'll try this..
OKay so this is what happened:

I just joined a server and the map was i think ns_eclispe (hive names are eclispe, comp core, and maintenenace) Oh yeah, and it was a 8 vs 8 game.

Alright, so when i joined, i joined the aliens, which reallly SUCKED becuase they we losing a hell a lot! the marines captured and secured 2 hive locations and they were gonna prepare to attack our only hive.

i kept hearing peeps saying: ahh we gonna lose, and like let;s just f4 and all that. Well, i almost gave up when i thought of an idea. ALthough i thought this was dumb, turned out it was'nt: First, i said ' The whole team group up at main hive and attack the marine's main base!" i thought the other alien players probably didn't agree, but in like 3 seconds, everyone started agreeing. VOice comms kept saying "all skulks group up at main hive! let's kill their base!"

Pretty soon, all the skulks got lvl 3 carapace and grouped up at main hive. We quickly planned our attack, and ran all the way to the marine start Together. DUe to the commander's concentration on capturing hives, he didn't bother dropping turrets and turret factories. SO their base was pretty open, with a few marines in it. while the marines were chatting and bragging about winning, they didn't brag very long. The marine base doors opened with a HUGE surprise of 8 skulks pouring in, biting at the marines and their buildings. We qucikly annihilated their whole base, taking out phase gates, infrantry portals, the commander and his chair, and much more.

i held down tab to see the score, and surprisingly, the marines only had 3 guys alive!( becuase nearly the whole marine team kept phasing back to base, getting killed by 8 skulks everytime they phased) A huge comeback, we quickly went hunting for em, grouping up to destroy their bases at our hive locations.

It didn't take long to find those marines and kill em all.

Sweet comeback? yes or no?

Remember: WE HAD ONLY 1 HIVE!!!!
by using skulkpower and teamwork, annihilating the marines was no problem.
You might wanna try this stragety as a last desperate attempt to win.

I've done it a number of times. Kudos on pulling it off on ns_eclipse, because that's about the most difficult marine spawn to attack (which is probably why they didn't bother defending it).

Remember that the marines are mortal. If they pour everything into locking down two hives early, their base is probably lightly defended, and a surprise attack will take it out before they can all phase back. It's very often the only viable option, in fact.

I give their comm the noob of the week award for not dropping a CC in one of their hives after the skulks popped in. recycle the phase, build up your hives, and guess what, you're now even harder to kill because you're spawning in their hive.

If that commander had a brain he would have seen the rush coming on motion tracking GJ for pulling the base rape off though.

Here a good one that happend last night..

Man it was HERA, and I'm guessing it was around 8v8 or more.
we started in archiving, and naturally we defended reception, and killed of the stuff they were buildings (open doorway leads to our hive, there) so anyways
    we secure holoroom, etc.
    THEY secure processing (oops)

naturally, we're SCREWED. A bunch of people (to make matters worse) had the idea to attack their base...
SUCCESS! They took out the base!
uhh oh.. processing is their new home... :/

took a long time, actually we had every node on the map except for a couple they kept getting (maint, for example, and sometimes cargo storage) and the datacore node.

Well, we had so many resources, eventually. We would put up one hive, it would get sieged, put up another, it would get sieged, etc. We managed to get VENT up once, and get a couple of fades, but the hive got taken again

at one point though, we got vent and data going up at the same time, and i don't know what happend, but the commander didn't scan (he probably forgot:/) so at archiving, we secretly all went fade (WOOT)
everyone and a gorge (i think?) and so we all just harassed the hell out of processing with acid rockets, and man.. it was over....

It was a very surprising comeback, considering we were at their mercy with 1 hive :/

yup, i think that was an awsome comeback. Thats what the game is supposed to be about, strategy and teamwork.

any marine commander who relocates to processing must be prepaired to be 100% alert. If he orders the marines to go there then its his number 1 job to make sure he scans.

This is what a smart commander would do, but for some reason many commanders prefer to call back everyone through the phase gate to defend the base ... and die. If you've got the res to spare, back up your CC!!

Sounds like the game I was in quite a few weeks ago. I was also on the aliens team. As of right now, I absolutely erfuse to relocate to processing unless I absolutely have to. I mean, first of all, hera is SUCH an easy map to pull of the JP/HMG rush it's not even funny (or even JUST a JP rush. I've pulled it off by just capping cargo and saving up res while at the same time harassing the aliens) Second of all, what Ace mentions will certainly almost always happen. The marines will have only one node, while thge aliens get all the rest Eventually the aliens will be able to sneak a hive up, and fades will appear. All relocation to processing usually means a really, really long game ending in marine defeat. Thirdly, it's hard to pull off the relocation unless the aliens start in Archiving.

So true. Marine base + 2 hive loations = a minimum of 3 nodes. How could the cdr not think to drop a backup CC in one of the hive locations.

You have to do many things right to win. You only have to make one significant mistake to lose.

what should go through a smart comms head-
the aliens are all sitting in their base
    i dont see any aliens
    the aliens are desperate
    my base is defnseless
    i should scan around
    order some folks back
and then stop the rush and win the game

what (probably) went through his head-
ill build 20 turrets everywhere but base
ill put a siege at every node
ill spam the base full of cool looking things
----blank spot where thought about emergency beacon should be---
i can hop out and kill them all, their only skulks

    OR THEY-

    suffered a heart attack
    were attacked by legless ninjas
suffered a sudden accute case of explosive hemorrhoids

conclusion: these people need mental help or serious medical attention

In defense of this nameless comamnder, it can be quite difficult from the commander's perspective to realise how serious/big an attack is until it's too late. Another example of how imperative it is marines gave feedback to their commander.

Yes, he/she should have expected it, but it's something to bear in mind.

Ahh, the comeback, how I love it so...

Just in defense of the Marine commander, sometime ago, back in 1.01 or 1.00, I was the comm. We were losing fair enough, aliens had three hives, Comms had been changing hands every five minutes. You know your going to lose when that happens. Anyway, I'd gone comm becuase no one else would in the end. Base was screwed, fades everywhere. I notice a marine sitting in a safe location at the other end of the map. I drop him a CC and tell him to build it.

    What does he do?

    "I wont build it"

Only one thing described my emotion at that moment ----> !@
