The Graphics..

Are you that work on this mod really using the Half-Life engine?

NS have much more light effects than regular hl.
And the models are even more detailed than Counter-Strikes models.. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Thanks for answers.

    HL is VERY old. When HL was released, the developpers couldn't afford to put a lot of light effects because the best computer at that time was a P2-400 lol

    Well.. yeah. But I dident think that they could do that NS had so nice lighteffects.
    It reminds me off Doom III and Unreal II.. maybe not in class of them but NS has some really nice effects.

    Half-Life on PlayStation 2 has better colour than the PC but thats is because HL is 16-bit on PC and 32-bit on PS2.

    Well, ZHLT were released after HL (ZHLT = new HL compile tools thar are much more powerful than the old ones).

    And to have HL in 32 bits, add -32bpp at the command line.

    No. In fact, they are using the UT2k3 engine, but somehow MAGICALLY made it so that we can run it in Half Life.

    <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> . Of course they are using the Half Life engine.

    Well when level designers, model makers, texture artists, and coders have had several years to work with this engine, it comes out easily 10x better than the original shiz.

    when looking at a screenshot, the dead give away that its HL is always the HUD models and textures. for me at least.

    NS is a brilliant looking game. Even by todays standards such as UT2003 and U2, NS is still an eye pleaser...And NS has some of the best music and sound effects in a MOD yet!

    Just like CS is about to have a retail release, I bet NS will have a retail release too. NS2 perhaps <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    half-life on the PS2 is only at 640x480 and it looks and plays very bad with that normal ps2 controler :/ , anyway yes the HL engine has been inproved over the years or the tools that can be used have become much better.

    i didnt know u could run HL in 32bit colour, does it look much diffrent?

    I have HL on PS2 and the controls are great.. you can play with mouse and keyboard too.
    And yes its plays 640x480.. so whats wrong with that?

    <b>This is HL screens from PS2</b>
    <img src='http://www.gamerankings.com/screens3/4774/3.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    <img src='http://www.gamerankings.com/screens3/4774/10.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Just the minus with the PS2 version is that the FPS drops pretty often.

    Dident find any bigger screens.

    That's because they're at 640x480. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> If they were blown up to the size of the screens that got posted for NS/HL, you'd be able to see every pixel.

    Consoles are grainy and unupgradeable. 'Nuff said.

    The original HL game actually had a few areas with really sweet lighting; the one screenshot that got posted didn't do it justice at all. Heck, even the lighting in Quake 1 was pretty darned impressive in some cases - the rockets were all light sources, so when you fired them down hallways, you'd have this ring of light around them as the light bounced off the nearby surfaces. Pretty cool stuff.

    Yeah, the Half-Life SDK is freely available (how do you think people make <a href='http://www.leadtogold.com/software/p4hl/index.html' target='_blank'>cool mod</a>s?). To add extra wacky lighting effects, though, you'd really want to start from scratch with a new engine. Like, say, what John Carmack did for the Doom 3 engine. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Lohne laughs. You know, while we're on a whole thread devoted to Natural Selection graphics, we may as well start the pot to lisence the Doom III engine right when it comes out, cuase you know...I'd sell my car for NS 2 in "Doom III" vision.

    The 4-player limit might diminish the team aspect just a smidge, though.

    (For those who haven't heard, the current story from id is that the Doom 3 engine will only support multiplayer for 4 players.)

    ......never.....mind....

    Though one would think it'd not be that hard to just "up" the amount of people a multiplayer code can handle would it? Or am I talking out my *** becuase I have no idea what that would entail? Lets just hope it has co-op.

    4 players. What a joke. Should have guessed it's be weak somewhere, as good as it looked.

    Ok, don't turn this into a console war. They look sharper because you are 10 feet away, and if they were on a comp, they would be icky. Some consoles have better graphics because PC games need to play on older ones also. You two are both right.

    Back to the original topic: Well, can't you add spiffy lighting FX like the Tenebrae folks?
