AFAIK the hive mind is set up by the hive. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
And AFAIK you win the game once all hives and aliens are dead.
So now you imagine that the last hive is destroyed, but there are still aliens alive. Do those aliens then still can use hivemind?
It would be unlogical if you may use hivemind, also theres no hive left.

As of right now, every player on one side must be dead at the same time. What I'd like to see in the final product is that all opposition must be destroyed with no chance of respawning to achieve victory.

You were right, it is.
Flayra mentioned once (in IRC, I believe) that the winning conditions will be changed to this.
I think it'd be cool if it was set up like that. It'd reward resourceful marines who were smart enough to avoid combat and take the hive out quick. Nice idea.

I guess it wouldn't be a problem, though, as long as you can vote people off. Just make the voting process nice and idiot proof. I can't count the number of times when there was an obvious hacker (I'm thinking particularly of the old speed hack, where you could fire the AWP like 5 times in a second) in CS on some random server, and 2/3 of the people there weren't smart enough (even with step by step instructions) to figure out how to vote in the console. :(
