<div class="IPBDescription">Powerstrip</div> OMG I can't believe I didn't know about this and used to try and play games without it. I have a crappy monitor and NO videocard support software gives a decent amount of control over the gamma, brightness and contrast.
It's shareware but the the unregistered is fully functional and doesn't expire.
I am not aware of this being AdWare.
anyway, you can find it here:
<a href='http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm' target='_blank'>powerstrip</a>
And no, I am not their monkey spokeperson <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Just thought there might b a couple of you who suffer as I do with monitor headaches.

with this i get a few more frames per second and i feel like i am prolonging the life of my video card by putting it into hibernation while running things like Word and IE.
it also lets you set resolution as high as your monitor allows, which is way past what windows lets you on the display properties dialog.
Thanks. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
/me adds powerstrip to his list of things to avoid.
hehe
Its not like something you do for rightclicking on the startmenu instead of leftclicking...
Why, to you, does powerstrip = cheat :-D
That or he was just joking, and forgot to put the <sarcasm></sarcasm> tags on.. but that's giving the benefit of the doubt, something I don't tend to do much any more with humans. :b
So yeah...PowerStrip is a great app for me at least <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
OMG
Man I swear people will WHINE about anything. Yeah and having a monitor that has brightness and contrast controls is cheating too! Yeah, yeah, and video cards that come with overclocking software, those lamers, how dare they cheat!
How about a nice, tall glass of SHUT THE F_CK UP!
Sorry, I just had to get that out. As far as problems, I'm sure that like with any program out there on the net there may be one or two that can't handle it. But to assure some of you, I have three computers which all have powerstrip on them now. Video cards as follows: ATI 9700, GeForce 2 and Voodoo 3. All are mated to AMD CPU's and 2 of them to ASUS motherboards. Powerstrip works with ALL of them.
Most important was the old Voodoo 3, which I cannot find ANYTHING but the original drivers now that 3DFX is out of busiess. WickedGL used to work but the webpage is toast and I can't find it anywhere. The OEM videocard control software was not designed for and will not run under windows xp or 2000. I had pretty much givenup until I found Powerstrip. And if you don't like people asking for money everytime you start the program they are letting you use for FREE (new version has no expiration) then buy it or have a nice tall glass of..............

YES. DUH <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Most of the programs works fine with win 95 - ME. You run into problems when you have win XP or 2000. Most of the them just don't work right. (Yes, I am running win 2000 on an AMD 500 mhz w/ 128 RAM and a 3DFX Voodoo 3 - it runs just fine). I was about to wipe the disk on that computer and reinstall ME just so I could get my video toolbox back when I found the powerstrip thingy.
NOTE: You can find 2 dozen sites about WickedGL on the web, but every single one of them points you back to the WickedGL homepage - which no longer exists!
it does the same as powerstrip but without all the fancy crap, adjust's gamma and thats it, sits quietly on your menubar <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
oh and to people who think gamma adjusters = cheat, you probably have a good moniter, my friend doesnt need one and NS is far brighter on his PC than on mine when i dont use the gamma program, i tryed to play a game without it and its just impossable.

no, I think all third party applications which give you an unfair advantage over other players not using it is h4x<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Its being suggested for people who's systems can't run gamma high enough to see anything. Most people with newer systems have no problem with this, and can change it in the options menu. From what I've heard, it doesn't sound like it gives any unfair advantage. And just as a general statement to everyone, please try and reserve "elite"-speak (ie. h4x, etc.) for CS and other such retarded games. The idea behind NS is to require some thought and intelligence from players(waits for flames...).
Shhhh! Don't mention that! He'll start demanding everyone play with the absolute bare minimum specs! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Erp.. he'll really hate my 1.5GB then. :b As well as my video card, CPU, monitor, optical mouse... after all, all of those are advantages over someone playing NS on a stick and a piece of string. Which of course is unfair to those lacking string. Or a stick. Or both. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Playing with gamma set far too high /is/ unfair to other players. Playing after using a utility to set your gamma properly is not. Or to flush your RAM. Or to clock up your video card, if it can handle the strain.
