When I first downloaded the game and installed it I took a quick look at the manual. Maybe 10 - 15 minutes. Then I jumped right in using the ingame server browser.
The only games I'd played online up until then was UT 2003, the demo, Asherons Call ( a stupid game if you ask me. ) and Quake 3.
I loved this one right from the begining. It is such a blast. I have since gone back to the manual and reread some of it but not all.
I seem to just catch on to stuff easy and quick. I do still read manuals for stuff mainly to go into detail on all the stuff and what they do.
skimming through the thread some ppl seemed to have said stuff against not reading manuals, mainly been tactics. Manuals dont give u all the tactics on what not to build first and stuff does it say u HAVE to build dcs first for aliens. u get this stuff from playing not reading the manual. like i said i skimmed through the thread so i might have got some ppl stuff wrong.
The NS manual gives false info anyway, well after all the patches

Then i realised its the OTHER super....yes, the one with the name and the sig and even the avatar that look very similar...
lots of people call me super..or Norn...so don't confuse me.
I browsed through the manual, but i basically knew most of what i was looking through. That was because i was on these forums about 3 weeks before i even downloaded NS. evenutally i was helping people out who had actually been playing. LOL
I can say one thing, it lived up to my expectations...lots of *player experiences* over here every day. Easy to learn. I'll remember to take a proper look at the manual though, i think i saw the back-story...dam, can't believe i didnt see it.
Wow, other people occasionally read the Starcraft manual on a whim? I had no idea. But seriously, it's good to see that there are lots of other people out there who actually read this kind of stuff. I hope it encourages whoever writes it... although it's true that the manual really should be updated. And the online tooltips as well. Last time I checked they still claimed that turrets could still function if the factory was destroyed, among other things.
When my friends say no to a manual I offer them, I enjoy watching them press random buttons and then exploding into a huge fireball. If I don't have a manual to read I usually go into options to at least find out the button layout. Background story always makes games much richer. My favorite manuals (heh) are all by Blizzard. Starcraft, Warcraft2, and Warcraft3 are great manuals.

The forums and just playing seems to work for me.
